new to reptiles

I acquired my first reptile in Sept. ZENI WAS 5 weeks. It has definitely been a learning experience and I still worry over her/ him. She wants nothing to do with veggies. I put them in twice a day. All different kinds off the list. She eats them if I stick them in while she' s gaping. I put them in strategic locations. She mostly just wants crickets. She poos in the same spot of her 55 gal everday( very convenient).She is 12 1/2 in long and weighs 170 grams. She knows her family. If a visitor arrives she puffs out. I love her alot. I wish she'd eat those blasted veggies!

First off congrats on your first baby!

As for the veggies issue don't worry too much. Veggies aren't really that important to a beardie till their a year and older, for the first year it's the protein they need the most of to grow.

A trick to getting them to eat veggies is to trick them, try hand feeding crickets for awhile then throw in a piece of veggie now and then. 9 times out of 10 once a beardie gets the taste for veggies their hooked.

Thanks! That puts me more at ease. Do you notice yours eatting less around the time they shed?

No problem!

Yes I do find beardies may not eat as much. All beardies take to shedding differently just like human women take the PMS differently

For example my baby will pretty much go off of food but guzzles water like she's never seen it before, she gets really grumpy so I can't handle her during that time and mainly just sits on her log day and night (other then dragging her body on her rocks trying to get rid of skin).

Other beardies barely even notice their shedding and will just go on as normal. It's really just finding out what your beardie does so you don't worry too much.
