NEW SOON-TO-BE BEARDIE OWNERS!

Hi there, we are Dave & Trace and are currently in the process of building a home for a beardie! We went to our local reptile shop yesterday and they have some gorgeous babies and we cant wait to get one! If anyone has any advice we would very much appreciate it! I read somewhere that heat mats are to be avoided. Is this true? :roll: Does anyone know different?

Look forward to receiving any info, and will add pics as soon as we have our new family member!!

Welcome!! There are some great articles on this site such as http://www.beardeddragon.org/articles/caresheet/ and others. As far as heat mats and such go though, yes they have the potential to be harmful and quite honestly they're not necessary. As long as they're getting a lot of heat from above, they'll be great shape :mrgreen:

When getting your new little one, just make sure to stay away from sand as substrate (since they're little) and use paper towels, reptile carpet, etc instead. Also just make sure you have the proper lighting (it's advised to stay away from the coil UVB bulbs even though I'm still not sure on the subject). Oh and pick up some vitamin and calcium dust while you're there You guys might know all of these things already but it's just some small advice! Can't wait to see pictures
