Ridley came out of brumation a few weeks ago - and we are happy to have our active and very hungry dragon back! I just had some questions about a change in bahavior.
1) Poops. He used to poo every day, sometimes every other day. Now he is pooping every 3-4 days only. He's always pooped in the bath, and is continuing that trait, and is not struggling to poop or anything, but his appetite isn't lacking at all, and the lower amount of poop is leading to make jokes around the house of a possibly exploding dragon. The amount going in doesn't seem proportional to what's coming out any more! He's eating a bowl of salad daily as well as approx 10 XL dubias and 3-5 XL superworms. I've been bathing him every day to give him more opportunities to poop, but he could care less. Is this just a adult/getting older thing? It's almost like he's saving it up since his poops are pretty large now.
Annnnnd, enough poop talk! lol
2) Basking. Since waking up, Ridley's basking behavior has changed. Once waking up, he basked for a day or two in temps of 99-103, but the past two weeks+ though, he will actively move out of any position hotter then 95. I was under the impression that adult basking temps should be around 100? I caught him one time sitting and temped him at 97, but he moved a few inches to the side after about 5 minutes. He actively goes to bask immediately after eating, and will bask for 1-3 hours, but spends the rest of his time mostly in the middle-temp zone of the tank, around 83ish. He's very active and walks around a lot, but that's where he likes to hang out. His poops don't have any undigested bits in them (trust me, I check ), but I worry! Do some dragons just like it a little cooler?
His temps and set up are good; he's got a brand new Mega-Ray 100w MVB as well as a 60watt incandescent house bulb, has a variety of temps throughout his tank, and I take measurements with two digital probe thermometers as well as a gun. He's active and bright eyed, but since he want into brumation so young (he's just over a year old, and probably a girl, but shhhh, he's our "boy") I just want to make sure everything is on the up-and-up.
