Hey all! I'll be getting a bearded dragon really soon and thought it to be wise to join this forum group! I'm kind of nervous, but really excited to get a beardie. I've socialized with them at the education program at the humane society, and decided to get one!

I currently have 2 crested geckos which i'll be donating to the education dept. at the humane society. So once they are gone im going down to the reptile store to get a baby beardie! They have like 20 of them right now.

So hey all!! Any advice for a n00b? I wanted to know before i got a beardie, how hard it is to socialize with them when they are young. I'm not sure how old the beardies are at the store, but ive heard rumors that they take forever to allow people to handle them. Just curious.

beardies are very friendly with people. once you bring them home, give them say a week to get over the stress of moving, and start handling them a little each day. We've handled ours daily since the day we got them (they were 5 weeks old then).
You shouldn't have any problems with socializing with them, especially after they associate you with food!
Good luck and welcome!

Thats awesome that they are so good with handling. I've only had geckos, and they are okay with handling but i got a little nervouse when people kept telling me "A young beardie will bite you! or try and get away until you tame it"

You all seem so helpful!! thanks!!! :blob5:

beardies are among the friendliest lizards around, alot more than geckos or iguanas. it is a rare occurance for someone to be bit by one. it only happens if the youngling is starving hungry and thinks you are food. you will be amazed by their social graces

I'm going to buy all of the cage stuff today. I already have a decent cage, i just need to clean and sterilize it. I might buy the beardie today, it depends on how things go.

And yes i know, no sand. I'm gonna get that fake grass stuff (and yes i know, make sure the nails wont get caught!) i've done my research on here for sure!!

I'm trying to think of a few names. i was thinking of Typhon or Apophis those are 2 names for the egyptian dragon of the underworld. What do you guys think?

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
