I have a wooden viv that I built myself, 48" x 24"x 31" with three vents about 3" x 12" and a 53W halogen flood light provides all the warmth my dude needs. Usually about 110F on the basking spot, depending on how high I raise it and between 75-80F at the cool side depending on ambient temperature of the room.

In saying that, you may find that a lower wattage bulb will serve your purposes just fine, and there is no need to buy a reptile branded bulb. My heat bulb is a Phillips halogen flood bulb that I got from Home Depot, was purchased when I bought my little dude in May and is still running strong with no signs of trouble, while I've heard stories of the reptile branded ones breaking or dying within weeks.

Wow - You actually built your Viv'! It thought about it but figured by the time I'd bought enough wood to get it right it was probably cheaper to pay someone else so I just did the "innards".

Thanks for the info'. I did read about using normal bulbs but being a newbie I wasn't too sure which would be bes so for now I've gone with the Arcadia, but will definitely look at the other options when it's time to change.

Well the big day finally came and Rex is home.

I have an extremely happy birthday girl and Rex seems to be settling in well.
We left him in the tank for 24 hours to settle in and he came out for the first time Yesterday afternoon.

I didn't expect him to eat the first night but he ate so well I had to run the nest day (yesterday) and buy some more live food.
