Hi I'm Saranita and just bought a new baby beardie yesterday!
Its still too young to determine gender so I named it Rylee as a gender neutral name, for easier explanation I'll refer to it as a he.
Everything is good, when i was holding him today he was laying on my finger with his eyes closed and everything while i pet him then later today he started running up and down a plant on one side of the cage and trying to climb out. I thought he might be hungry so I gave him a few crickets and he ate then calmed down, so a few hours later I took him out to hold him, he ran quickly across my hands then stopped and was fine. BUT THEN with no warning at all he jumps out of my hands and lands 5 feet onto the floor! I put him back in his tank now. I don't know if this is normal or something I should be worried about, should I wait until hes a bit bigger to start handling him? I heard that somewhere, but other people say hold them while very young. I;m just looking for tips and advice please he has me really worried at the moment.

Congratulations :D Yes it is normal for beardies to give their parents a scare by their stunt devil antics  However, yes, it is best if you let him get accustomed and comfortable in his new home without being disturbed for a few days. It causes less stress. So if you can contain yourself from picking him up for just a few days to a week, I'd advise it :D Make sure his basking temps are accurate and his crickets aren't too big. But again, congrats!

Now.. we need pictures. :blob8:

You need to make an account here: http://photobucket.com. Then all you have to do is upload your pics and copy the IMG code under the picture, then post it here! Can't wait to see some.

By the way, welcome! :D

Lol he's so cute. I wouldent handle him too much for 2 reasons 1- the lines/circles in his belly are stress marks , so wait and handle him if needed or keep it to a minimum. Also you might want to keep an eye on him, since ive heard stories of bearded dragon's falling, and hurting an organ or something.

haha yes my beardie baby is a stunt devil. I'd advise handling him when you are sitting on the floor so he can't fall or jump anywhere!

I placed him in his water dish to see if he would drink and he went pale, so i decided to give him his first bath, he wasnt happy haha, but when i put him back he was pale, then I fed him a few more crickets and he was fine. But now hes dark again haha. iunno what his problem is..

He is so cute! I wouldn't recommend a large water dish in the tank as it can raise humidity and most dragons won't be bathing in that. Make sure when you bathe him that the water is warm and not hot to the touch. Since he is so small, I would let him bathe on your hand or a towel so he has something to grip. What are the temperatures in the tank? Make sure you're using a temp gun or a digital w/probe thermometer. Temps taken on the cool side and right on the basking spot would be helpful. This may be why he's so stressed all the time.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
