Less then a week ago I Fostered a BD from the RES Rescue I work closely with as he needs more hands on attention.

His (Austin) Story
Someone dropped off him off at a Reptile Store stating he wont eat. He was sickly thin, not active, & quite dark in colour (read that dark in colour=bad). They gave him to our Rescue in hopes we could help him. Shortly after he arrived at the Rescue I Fostered him in hopes I could help him. He's in a temp 30gal tank here at my place, has a UVA/B heat lamp (new), large water dish he can lay in, a food dish for mixed veggies & plenty of crickets.

Today I learned (one of your members found me) that Sand is bad, so I wont be getting him any, he'll remain on Newspaper as its soft on his belly. So far Austin is eating MUCH better & is far more active (he'll hunt now). He loves to hang out with me & my dog. He's fearless & doesn't seem to stress out, because after stuffing him into a container, driving him to my place (30 mins drive) on less then smooth roads, & placing him into a new tank with a hungry dog staring at him through the glass... he was eating crickets from my hand

I know NOTHING (ok very little) about BD or Lizards in general. I'm more so into mammals, things that go BUMP in the night, & Common Snapping Turtles.

Here is Austin

Thanks :)
As soon as he is plump & eating well on his own, then he can be put up for Adoption. My goal is 3 more weeks, or sooner :)

Great! There is an adoption/for sale/free section of the forums...so if you would like you can post him up for sale here too!

Im so glad hes better!

Way to go helping out this guy. You're doing a great thing. :) He is a pretty guy and will make someone a very happy beardie slave. Or maybe you'll fall in love and YOU'LL be his slave.

Thanks :D

I'm not into keeping Lizards/snakes/most turtles/birds as pets, just not my thing. I love holding them from time to time, but they require more care then I want to give long term (I know my personal limits, why fostering works for me).

I'm more interested in keeping Tarantulas & other creepy crawlies. I also like having a dog in the house, just wish mine wasn't a furry bag-o-bones lol

Hi and welcome!!! If you have any questions, feel free to ask :)

I just want to give you this link as it is EXTREMELY helpful to beardie owners of all levels of experience: http://www.beautifuldragons.503xtreme.com/Nutrition.html. This page has great info on veggies and supplements. The veggie chart is especially helpful. Good luck! Austin is adorable by the way!!

Its great that you are helping him.
I used to be the same way...I only cared for mammals because they seemed to have more of a connection with their people, and their needs were easier to meet.
Then...I found out about Bearded Dragons. I love em, I think they are beautiful and unique animals with personalities that I can only compare to humans. Now I have a little baby beardie named Cinder who has a great personality.
I hope he finds a great home!

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
