Not a beardie owner yet but I hope to be one soon, just doing more research before I commit.

I'm a graphic designer with a big at-home office. I would like to put a vivarium in said office but I have irregular work hours and operate some loud printers and an especially loud die cutter that produces a screeching sound. These are tools I use occasionally, not regularly but I don't want to stress out a lizard. It has to be my office or not at all unfortunately, I have 3 manic cats that roam the rest of the house.

I'm also concerned about lights but I could cover the vivarium when I work late.

Thoughts? Advice? Warnings?

You probably won't know if it will bother him/her until you get them. I have 2 loud kids screaming and running all over all day and it doesn't seem to phase the dragons. It would be interesting to see what other people think though.

ps its nice to see you doing your research before getting your new addition! If you have any questions ask away!

In my experience sound doesn't greatly affect bearded dragons. I wouldn't put a dragon right next to a 100 watt speaker or anything like that but you should be fine with office printers, etc.

not sure with the noise, i think once they get used to it they would just ignore it.

for the lights, my beardies are in my living area (tiny apartment), so when the lights go out we cover them. now that it's warm we wrap them in their blankies and put them in the bedroom where it is dark and quiet. when it is cold i have shoeboxes for them to sleep in the cage. i put a pillow case on the bottom and they sleep on it, then you can either put another case on top of them or put the lid on. it keeps in dark. just cut some holes around the box so they get ventilation.

I have one beardies who doesn't seem to be affected by anything... She used to have staring matches with the cat through her viv. Another of ours is afraid of most everything from cars driving by when we are outside to her own reflection... One of ours was only afraid of ceiling fans.. Deathly afraid for about a month then he seemed to slowly realize they weren't going to attack him... But non seem to be bothered by noise... And there's a ton in my house with 2 kids and 4 dogs and constant comings and goings of friends...

Once you get them set up, watch them and see. At worst, you may need to take them out of the room while you are using the loud tools. Shouldn't be too much of an issue though, as others have mentioned it usually depends on the individual beardie. I'm betting that since they are unlikely to be right next to or directly on top of the loud things, they'll probably be just fine. :)

My beardie does not get stressed out by any sounds. LOL lets just say he has no choice! My house is a crazy 2 large loud dogs, 1 small yippy small dog, 3 children, my brother is currently living here, tv always blaring, rabbits, turtles. And my beardie is right in the middle. So like the poster above me said as long as he is not next to 100 watt speaker he should be okay, and if he is a baby he might get a little stressed at first. But that is normal and they will get used to it.

As far as the lights, we have all our reptiles on timers so if you something happens and you cannot get there the same time each day. The timers will turn them off and on for you. If you in after hours the lights will bother them but you can cover the terrium and he should be fine.

And I have many animals and my beardie is fine. As long as your beardies home is secure and is always closed when you are not around you could keep it with your cats. When he is older if you slowly introduce the cats they can even be friends! I know cats that LOVE my friends beardies. It is so cute.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
