I used to have a 100 watt bulb but when that just recently burnt out i got her a 120 watt bulb. Its about 6 inches from her head and 8 from the surface. Its on a incline, which the purpose is so she can move up or down to get however much heat she wants. It this too hot for her?

I have a thermometer in there and it reads 90 right now but its on the side and a couple inches farther down.

by the way, i know i should et a double coiled or whatever thermometer so i can get the temps of two temps but i cant afford it right now. Im not asking what thermometer i should get.

We use a 100 watt basking bulb and it has to be 24 inches from the therm probe on his basking spot. To hit a safe range of 105f. We had to go buy a stand to beable to raise it above his viv to get that temp. Ontop of his viv on the screen it was hitting 124 deg all the way on the tile floor. 6 inches sounds like it would fry his lil brain.

What kind of thermometer are you using? The reason I ask is that you may not be getting the correct temps. That is why the digital thermometer with wire/probe is always suggested...it gives you accurate temps.
If you are using a stick on thermometer it can be off as much as 20 degrees. Without the correct reading on your basking spot you could very well fry your beardie....6 inches from a 120 watt bulb is too close. So, please lower the basking spot to a safer distance of 10-12".

culbert, back in January, we discussed the importance of you getting an accurate thermometer and I posted the picture of the AcuRite digital with probe end that can be found at Walmart for about $12.00. Having a stick-on type thermometer on the side is actually not doing any good at all. Since you have a little baby, you NEED to know what the true temps are, I can't stress this enough. If the temps aren't right, babies can decline very rapidly. You can even get a digital with probe for much cheaper than the $12.00 but it may not be as accurate but will be better than what you're using now. Here's a picture of one for about $6.00. http://www.petmountain.com/product/reptile-thermometers/511260/zoo-med-digital-terrarium-thermometer.html

I agree with the others that having a 120 watt bulb only 6" from your babies head is way too close and dangerous. It can cause heat stroke and rapid dehydration. When do you think you can get the digital thermometer? In the meantime, you might be safer using a 100 watt household light bulb rather than the 120 watt.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
