Hi
I'm new here and read through a good bit of the posts and couldn't find an answer. I recently built a custom 6'x3'x2' tank for my beardie. When he was in his 20 long he would allow us to put our hand in and he would crawl up on it and we could take him out. When feeding him in the 20 long we would just take out his furniture and pour in the crickets, remove what he didn't eat and replace the furniture :D
In his new location removing the furniture isn't an option and I don't feel comfortable feeding the crickets in there. I'm concerned he won't find them plus I don't want to leave them in there overnight. Short of climbing in the tank and tackling him  I'm having issues getting him out. I have taken him out twice to feed him the feeder tank but it wasn't pretty. I broke a sweat :|

Richard is 6 months old. There are three basking areas 102 96 89. Cool side is 77 with gradients all in between. He has a reptisun 10.0. He gets fresh veggies daily. Collard greens squash cucumbers and carrots occasionally, and he's eating them. He has 4 different caves for hides and it's multi level. He has been in the tank now for 6 days. Aside from the first 24 hours he showed normal behavior. The first day he hid in one of the caves but that was it.

I don't know if it's ok to feed him crickets in the new tank and stop worrying or should I continue to chase him to get him out. He hates me all of a sudden ! :p

hahahaha.

teenager dragon says "stay out of my room!"

it wouldn't hurt to try feeding him on one side of the tank. and early enough so that he can keep eating any crickets he finds that escaped him

Thanks for the replies. I tossed some in there today. He ate 2 right away, 4 got away. His hunting skills are well...he needs pratice :)
I also left some small crickets in a Tupperware container that they can't get out of. Looks like he is sleeping now. I'll do what you suggested in the AM and put some in 1st thing.

Thanks !

When I moved mine into her new lager VIV she did the same thing for a couple of days. Now I dust the crickets in a Parmesan cheese container and I place the container on in the viv on the side that i feed her in.
She can see the crickets and will come running down to it. She trys to get them through the container. Then I pour one out at a time from the container and she will chase it down that way. The most I do is 2 or 3 at time, she will usually give chase but not all the time. There was a few times she actually tried to jump up and get the bottom of the container.

The trick we use is putting the crickets in the freezer in a very tall cup and wait about 3 to 4 minutes. This slows them down almost into a coma state much like when you get crickets in the winter a lot of the time you have to "thaw" them out. Works great for us. If he needs them to move then but them with worms like Zophobas which makes the crickets move too. Beardies love zophobas

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
