New Beginnings

Just recently my one year old female bearded dragon named Greg Passed away. I got her when she was about 7-8 months and nursed her back to health with the help from the awesome community on this site. Before she passed I purchased a 55 gal tank. I had already spent the money but I didnt pick it up yet. After holding Greg as she struggled to take her lasts breaths I was too heart broken to go and pick up my tank which was going to end up empty. Well I really had no choice after walking around the whole day depressed I got in my car and drove to pick up the 55 gal. When I got there they asked me what held me up and I told them how my dragon had just passed away that morning. Well to make a long story short they gave me a free baby beardie. I wasnt exactly thrilled about the offer. I didnt think I wanted to get a new one for a long time. I ended up taking the baby home s/he is 7 weeks old and looks like a a healthy dragon. I have him set up on paper towel in my 20 gal and seems to be settling in fine.

Well I do need help naming my new Beardie so leave your ideas!

Also I dusted 4 tiny crix today and put them in the tub I fed Greg in when I first got her home it worked out nice getting her used to be handled before feeding time. Any ways I put the little guy in plastic tub with the crix already running around he irgnored them. He ate a couple tiny superworms but thats it How can I get him to go after the crix and eat his greens I have never had a baby before.

I am very sorry for you loss. I also just got a baby and never had a beardie before. they tell me babies really don't eat many greens, but I find mine will eats finely chopped cabbage and dandelion greens and sometimes squash. He loves crix too, but would rather eat small superworms, horm worms and pheonix worms which I know are more money, but I just hate the crix . I also heard that the Dubia roaches are great for them but they are costly as well. I just started ordering bulk on the worms and crix myself because with the baby he will eat like 50-60 of either thing a day so if you can get him to like veggies more go for it. Oh my little guy likes apples and stawberries too :lol:

Hi there,
Sorry and congrats all in one. Offer the greens everyday. The pooper will eat them in time. feed the pooper in its tank and i think all will be well. Dont feed a ton of crix at a time just a few at a shot to start with.. If 2 or 3 remain at the end of the night not a big deal.

Thanks for the replys. Since yesterday I have tryed to feed him crix a couple times I have paper towel in his viv along with a hide a food bowl a log and a thermometer so you can see why I was reluctant to put the crix in his cage. Today I tryed some squash baby food and he ate about 0.2 mLs of that. I am going to start breeding Turk roaches once they 200 i ordered arive in the next day or so. So after about 4 months They should be a self sustaining colony and then I will have much more money in my pockets :mrgreen: Until then I can get crix a dollor a dozen or I can order pheonix worms which I have fed before and love them but they are pricey as well not exactly sure where the cheapest place to order them is. I really hate crickets they are loud stinky and dirty. 3 bad traits. Should I continue trying to feed crix or just order some pheonix worms and give them a try for a while. I have fed him tiny superworms so I know he likes worms. I also gave the little guy a bath today to get some of the squash off of his face. After he was fat, full, and clean he arm waved at me for atleast 30 minutes today once he was back in his viv very cute.

So today was a good day but I must admit Im looking forward to tomorrow not only do I get to attempt to feed him crix again but Im going to start building a midevil castle hide. Should be a blast.

So I have been thinking long and hard what to name my baby. Well here is another idea... The move Holes they have beardies in that movie and some digitally enhanced mean ones but there are a few scenes where the lizards are just chillin on people

Well I thought It would be kool to name my beardie after the Character Zero from the movie let me know your thoughts I know im way to picky about this but I really want a good name.

I think you have already fallen in love with your new baby. :lol: Personally I think you should name your new pooper whatever you feel comfortable with. How do you think I feel, My son named his dragon Ganja (hmmm, we all know what that stands for) I wont tell him, but I will be taking that little pooper over very soon he is so cute. I just have to learn how to post pictures on here so you all can see how cute he is.

Simboney7 What size pheonix worms did you get for that deal. I would have done something like that too but I live pretty far away from all of the breeders I checked out and shipping was costing me more than my orders. So I went to http://www.wormman.com and got 4 cups of 100 mediums for 24.95 free shipping. I really hope mediums are not too big for my guy they are 7/16 inches I have a feeling they might be but I know they keep for a while so if they are Ill keep offering crix until I he is big enough to eat the mediums. On the description it says perfect for baby bearded dragons so hopefully I am good. I just would hate to spend almost 30 dollars on worms that messure 3/16 uhg. That thats a riot! Ganja... does he have a bit of green color? Just curious. Completely off topic but I got to choose from 8 babies when I got my new guy and one had the most beautiful colors I have ever seen It had greens all down his back and a orange head orange sides and a orange stripe down his back. He wasnt looking in such good shape though pore guy Any ways still not going to name him yet till I get something I really like. Thanks for the reply :mrgreen:

CROCadoodledoo you are indeed right it was a great movie. The more I see Shia Labeouf in movies and on TV the more I like him. When he was in even stevens. Anyone remember that show? Any ways It was eh. But the more movies hes in the more I cant wait to see what he will be doing when hes older. Anyone see the future Jason Statham in him? I just recently saw the first transformers and I loved it I used to watch the dinosaursh one when I was a kid. So I cant wait to get my hands on the second one.

Double post Im sorry.

So I have bought all this supplies to start breading roaches in the next week. And one of the things I picked up was Kitten dry food which has more protein and fat than regular cat food. Well I got to pick my kitty when I was 10 from the pet store and she is probably about 9 years old now and hasn’t had kitten food for only god knows how long. Well I have the bag sitting downstairs next to my plastic roach tote. I come home walk downstairs to see how my little dragon is doing. (I left before his lights turned on this morning). Any ways he was in the same spot has we was last night on his vine. In fact he just jumped up there again now. Well my cat was by the tank trying to rip open the kitten food bag with her declawed paws lol! So I ran and got the camera and decided this was a perfect photo opportunity. After the photo shoot I felt bad so I gave in and let her get the first taste of the bag. Just to taste to see if it was tasty enough for the roaches here are some of the good ones.

Maybe if a pull hard enough.

Good news from my picky eater today too I got the tweezers out and held him and kind of played around with the crix until finally he snatched on from me. I think he ended up eating about a dozen so that’s good. After the crix I got out the Monoject and fed some baby food squash He must have been full because midway he pooped on my shorts. The poop looked solid too so good stuff.

I have been thinking my 2 favorite bands are The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Incubus. I kind of want to name him after a song or something from one of those two bands. I was thinking Zee Deveel earlier today

steve- I also got medium I think they will be fine because they are soft bodied worms. I don't know where you live but I am in mass and shipping was only 9.40 and I ordered 250 crix also. I am going to check out the site you mentioned also because I love FREE SHIPPING :mrgreen:

My little guy tryed his first Dubia roaches today I think he loved them. Because he ate all 20 before I could get the camera and focus it on him. I do have a picture of him standing in his food dish victorious over those darned roaches lol. I had another name idea today I was testing out Bloo pronounced like blue I donno I was getting a kick out of it.
