So after wanting a bearded dragon for 2 and a half years and researching a lot in that time, i finally got myself a beardie yesterday. Her name is Maia and i've been told she's around 5 months old. She's approximately 12 inches long.
I had reserved her a few weeks ago while i got her viv set up. I visited her another time after reserving her and her tail was is shed. Then when i went to pick her up yesterday, her tail already seems to have shed, but half of her tail is darker than the rest of it. She has a small tail kink that she was born with at the end of her tail, but it's never seemed to bother her. I'm just wondering if the darkened tail colour is due to stress, shed, or something else. I'm pretty sure her head and back are coming in to shed if that means anything?
She lives in a 5ft x 2ft x 2ft viv. Her basking bulb is a 50w halogen house bulb, and she has a ceramic heat bulb in there as well to keep the cool end at the right temps. Basking temp is 39-43c in different places on her rock so she can decide how hot she wants to be and her cool end temp is 25-26c. All bulbs are off at night since the room stays at the right temperature for her. The bulbs are controlled with Habistat pulse-proportional and dimming stats, with exo terra digital thermometers and hygrometer to monitor the temps, and i use a temp gun on her basking spot. The humidity is 44% which i'm finding hard to get lower. She doesn't have a water bowl but i'm making sure to keep her hydrated. She has an arcadia T5 UVB light with a reflector on the back wall around 35cm from the floor (is this too high?).
I currently have her on kitchen towels but will eventually switch her to sand mats.
When i brought her home yesterday, she ate 15 medium locusts, and a fair amount of cut up green beans. Today she hasn't yet eaten anything, though it's there for her if she wants it. She pooped once yesterday, once last night, and once this morning so far today. All poops look normal, just with a lot of excess water.
She's really easy to handle since the pet store did a great job with socialising their beardies, even though she is a little bit worried about me at the moment, i can still pick her up and move her around if i need to, but i'm trying to leave her alone at the moment.
I think i've covered everything about her that might be needed to know, but if there's anything i've missed, feel free to ask. So is her tail anything to worry about or is it normal?
