Ok guys so my other baby died ? So petsmarts replaced her I know not the place to get dragons from I disinfected and deep cleaned the cage got new toys and a new bulb that's 150 watts because my 100 watt wasn't putting off enough heat. My new dragon is pretty big and my husband said he was sitting with his or her mouth open earlier like it was to hot? But the temp says 105 should I take that 150watt back and get a 100 watt or what should I do? Help please

Hi Tiff, what size is the tank, and can you post a few pics of the set up including the type/brand of lights ? Gaping is fine, some beardies do that while basking, and the temp. is fine too.

Wow a 150 is a bit hot for a 20gal, as a matter of fact a lot hot. There won't be a cool spot anywhere for it to regulate it's Temps with that much heat.
What are you taking the Temps with?

I would suggest putting him in the 40 now, so he can self regulate his temps. A 20 is to small and difficult to get a good temperature gradient.
His basking spot is the most important part of the heat gradient it should be an elevated spot closer to the basking bulb at 95° to 110°. Below that should be around 90° to 95° on the warm end. The cool end should be about 75° to 85° . These temps allow them to regulated their body temps.

Tiff, does the digital thermometer have a long wire & probe end or is it a digital strip stuck to the side of the tank?

A basking bulb that is 150 watts is definitely too hot. In fact, even a 100 watt is too high for a 20 gallon tank. You should only need about a 60 watt or at the very most, a 75 watt. Where exactly are you getting the 105 reading?

Have you been offering the baby drinks of water with a plastic medicine dropper or needleless syringe? He could very well by dehydrated.

Please give us the exact specifics of the thermometer you're using or post a picture of it as something doesn't seem right.

Probe and it says 105 on top his basking spot I changed back bulbs he's been eating and drinking today. Could my air be effecting the temps? He's very active gave him a bath he took off swimming. So if I switch him or her to the 40 will 150 be fine? If so I'll keep it inst ad of getting a new 100. The 75 did not get it warm enough

Will the 150 be fine for the 40 gallon? If so I'll keep it? Instead of trading it in. Idk if my thermo is off or not I might just buy a new one of those to make sure everything is correct I want this one to be happy in his or her new home.

You can raise or lower the basking spot to adjust the heat to the bulb the highest I have used in a 75 gal is a 75watt and that even gets a bit warm. Try a 75watt and play with the height a bit till you get it where it needs to be. Depending on how old the dragon is will dictate what the temp needs to be in that particular spot( for babies and juvies 100° to 110° and adults 1 year and older 95° to 100°).
When I say elevated I mean a high point in the viv with the basking light and uvb shining on it at the same time. They love to climb and bask.

ok well I'm gonna say he's a baby not big so my temp was fine... I'll test it out and see what all I get. Thank you!

Make sure you are placing the probe right on the basking log or rock & then waiting about 45 min before getting the final reading.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
