Hey guys. So I’m a newbie on this site and I’m hoping my image upload has worked! So I’ve recently adopted a lovely 4 month old beardie named Tim. This is his set up. I’ve got the warm end and cool end - I use an jnfared gun to monitor the temp. He’s got a hide to the right. I covered half of the viv with chip and he seems to enjoy digging of an evening. I’ve got a uvb bulb (I forget the strength but I did research it) and a reflector attached. I have the basking bulb on top of the mesh roof and his basking branch below. He also has a cuddly red dragon which his is a bit fond of! I’m just wondering what people’s thoughts are. Any advice appreciated!

Welcome to the forum------ his tank looks good--- however chip? What kind of chip? and the UVB I see is inside the tank-- what kind of UVB? the reflector should come off the bulb if you have it on -- Walnut chips are hazardous to dragons-- and there are others too but I cant remember what kind-- others on here would be able to tell us--- --- but I know walnut and coconut dirt are not recommended--- laser gun is good--- if you get tired of the carpet in the tank you can always switch out that to a non adhesive shelf liner or a ceramic slated tile -- both are cheap and can be bought at Home Depot Lowes etc... tile would haft to be cut to tank size-- if you plan on upgrading to a bigger tank as I think hes in a 40 gal now? He would need a bigger tank by the time hes a year for sure so the tile if you decide on that I would wait till hes in his permanent enclosure---- but for now please get rid of the chip stuff if its the walnut etc............

Everything looks good to me. The reflector can stay on. It's a diffuser you'd want to remove. Reflectors help the output of the uvb instead of limit it.

If you turn off the uvb bulb there should be some writing on it. brand and type.

The red dragon is cute. They do seem to grow fond of soft items hah.
What temps are you getting in your tank with your IR gun?

Thanks for the reply. It’s just standard wood chip. It’s fairly chunky and seems too big to ingest - I got it from a reptile specialist and my vet also mentioned it was fine. Is it easier to just remove the wood chip and stick with the reptile carpet?

It’s a Komodo T8 uvb 10. And as you mentioned Claudius it helps the output of the light. Seemed like a good purchase at the time.

I’m getting 42c degrees at the hot end and 22c degrees at the cool end, dropping to 20 in the night. Does that sound healthy?

Yes the warm is good since he is young --- adults like it around 90-105-- just for future info -- the cool side is good usually around 80- 70 would would good for nite time -- all Fahrenheit -- I have never heard of the UVB brand you got--- maybe some others have heard of it-- I just know what we on the forum recommend and suggest and what we dont recommend ---

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
