New beardie named Destro!

Hello! I was unfortunate to get a sick baby dragon named Eli who passed away a week ago, but yesterday I bought a healthy active, and friendly juvenile male beardie named Destro. He is doing great already, eating like a freaking pig! I would just like to say hello to everyone and assure you pictures are coming. I think my little guy is a leatherback due to his patterns, and this made me even more exciting to own him! He is currently in a 20 g long and his body, head to end of the tail, is about 10 inches. Next month I will try and upgrade him to a 40g breeder untill he is full grown! After my loss with Eli, this very active little fellow made me feel good again.

Welcome. I have a few tips I share with all the newbies
1) Make sure that there is nothing (plastic/mesh/glass) between your uvb (tube light) and your beardie (the reptile :wink: )
2) Repti Sun 10.0 is the BEST I didn’t think much of it when I was first on this site, but since I broke down and got one it has made the biggest difference in Brodie's eating/behavior. I adopted Brodie at a year old. He was SUPER small for his age, ect...but if you want to read about his rescue/progress you can go to the link on my signature.
3) Start weighing and measuring your baby about every week or 2. They grow so fast and it’s nice to have something to remember how small they were.
4) Get slate tile. I got mine at lowes and they cut it to fit my 50 gall breeder. Try to get 2 tiles so that you only have 1 crack to worry about cleaning between. I got a slate/porcelain mix. It is smooth, but rough enough to wear down the nails and have something for them to grip onto. It is also much easier to clean. Just use baby wipes to wipe out the poo, and a small dust broom to sweep out extra shed/random stuff.
5) Find a private breeder for crix. They are WAY cheaper. I found my breeder at a reptile expo. Paying about $.19 per dozen instead of a dollar.

I have a repti sun 10.0 tube uvb, and the plastic screen has been removed when i first bought the fixture. Im working on getting slate, i might wait until i have a 40g breeder tank.

One question however, should i put his calcium supplements with D3 on his crickets and veggies every day or every other day. I was told by a specialist that giving them calcium supplements everyday can affect there liver.

You do not need to dust the crickets you feed everyday....every other day or third day should be fine.

Sorry to hear about your other baby.

We actually recommend using calcium with D3 for 5 days a wk but only 1 feeding a day and then vitamins the other 2 days a wk but only 1 feeding a day. What brand calcium and vitamins are you using?

Great that you have the Repti-Sun 10.0 fluorescent, make sure it is right alongside a bright white basking bulb and that he can get within 6 to 8" of it.
