New beardie; Khaleesi

Hi guys,

I did have another topic in General Discussion, but I thought it was apt to make a new topic here to introduce my new beardie, Khaleesi. I picked her up from her old home last night with a tiny tank, with no UVA/UVB bulb, kiddy play sand as a substrate, no bulb shield, and no where for her to hide.

I took her home, and went out to buy her some new things for a tank I had for my old corn. This is her in her new home:

She doesn't have a water bowl because our house is pretty humid as it is and I don't want to make matters worse. She can hide under the foilage on the right, which is also her cool end. The tank isn't as big as I would like it, but when I have some money on hand (when I go back to work) I'll be buying her a nice 4x2x2 which I'm sure she'll love.

She's eating 4th crickets just now (which I'm changing to hoppers, they just didn't have any in stock) and I was given Morios which her, which I'm not too keen on but she loves. She doesn't seem to want to eat anything vegetable related although living on a diet of nothing but cucumber would put me off vegetables too!

It took me an hour of persuading and gentle petting to calm her down and get her to put her beard away and close her mouth, but last night she ended up falling asleep on me while I read a book and at this moment in time she's scrabbling incessantly at the glass doors on her tank to come out. She loves being handled, she just hadn't been handled at all in her old home.

I'm not sure of her full colours yet, but I'm leaning toward citrus tiger.

My goodness! The more I hear of these the stories the more infuriated I get! I just can't comprehend how people can bring a pet home without learning what they need and at least provide them with the bare essentials. To have no UVA light and to live in such a small enclosure, that poor girl. It's heartbreaking!

I'm glad you found her though. Now it sounds like she'll be getting everything she needs and wants. She's a beautiful girl and I'm sure she's happy in her new forever loving home. Thanks for saving her!

I got a picture of her old tank (everything is out of it in this one).

And her advertisement photo was this one:

She's grown a lot since the second photo was taken (she's around 15 inches now) and the tank isn't much bigger than what you see in the picture, only a few inches longer.

I just don't think she knows what to do with herself. She suddenly has things to climb, and things to look under, and there's people on the other side of the glass, and those people pet her and bathe her and tickle her chin...

She's all but wrecked the inside of her cage though trying to explore everything at once, and trying to catch crickets... I hate crickets. I'm sticking to hoppers.

wow...look at that water/food dish, whatever it is....(the tupperware thing) that is sad. I see ads like this one on craigslist non stop. and I swear if i had the money I would end up taking in another 3 or 4 dragons a week atleast because I feel so bad for them...

Congrats. And i'm sure she is so very please to have someone actually care for her!

I hate when people dont look into animal care before buying them. That is why I csnt go on craigslist anymore. Too many stupid people trying to get hundreds of dollars for animals that are sick.
