New beardie coming soon

Hi I’m not sure if you could help or if you would. I’m getting a dragon from fire and ice and terri isn’t necessarily the most talkative person. Terri sent a care thing for when the dragon arrives to do a bunch of very specific stuff like line the tank with paper towels and put white paper around the whole tank and weird temps that seem low to me. I own a bearded already and she is great with her set up and has been always. The temps say to be between 78-80 for the normal and 98 for the basking. The normal I find ok but my basking spot for my other bearded dragon is about 100 or maybe a little higher. Pretty much do I actually need to do all the stuff Terri said to or should my bearded dragon be fine if I don’t? Thank you for the help.

Fire and Ice Dragons is great, but I agree — those basking temps are too low. If you're buying a juvenile, temps need to be 110-115. For an adult, they need 105-110.

I would recommend supplementing your reading with this bearded dragon care guide. Breeder care guides tend to be pretty brief, so this should help answer your other questions. Otherwise, you know how to reach us! ;)

Congratulations on your new beardie!

Well generally its best to have a non loose substrate for beardies but if you want you can go with tile, or non adhesive shelf liner instead of paper towels. With my juvenile i have a dig area in her enclosure with soil and then tile on both sides, though because of what ive experienced in the past its so hard to not go out and buy another 16x16 to cover it up.

I use a tile for my normal bearded dragon but it’s a natural stone tile thing and it works great. Thanks for the help everyone

Yes, definitely get rid of the loose substrate, a baby will get impacted easily from the wood chips/crushed walnut and calcium type sand. Your basking stone is very nice, he'll probably love that but be careful, a hammock can snag nails very easily + sprain a little foot. I'd get rid of it + put in a basking branch/log instead.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
