Hello All,

Found a baby dragon at a local P*T*S*ART and although we couldn't get the manager to give him up we decided that he was close enough to death that either he'd make their two week window or I'd be returning a not alive animal. Anyhow, We've got it to drink and take a nibble of superworm guts and drink some carnivore care with calcium (took 0.2cc/mL) so let's all cross our fingers and hope.

We are well stocked up on typical dewormers, antifungals and antibacterials but don't currently have ponazuril or toltrazurail (Baycox) so if there is anyone out here from the Pacific Northwest or close to Seattle who could help out we'd like to treat for coccidia immediately. I'd order it but retail outlets take a week to get things to Seattle depending on where they ship from. Any of you who might have viable left over meds I'll cover shipping.

Thanks and follow along for what will hopefully be a great recovery and someday adoption. Pictures will be coming (not pretty, as a warning.)

Wow, he is very tiny & frail looking. Quite dehydrated too as you probably know. I think it would be better to push the fluids with a little carnivore care along with frequent baths. I actually would suggest you hold off on giving any antibiotics as they are very rough on their systems causing loss of appetite and also very dehydrating. Would go easy on the protein intake too so it doesn't overtax his system.

Try to keep his tank about 80 overnight to try to help boost his immune system.

Hope you can help him improve.

Aw, poor pitiful little one. :( It's so nice of you to try to help. I agree with Diamc to hold off on any medications, especially because you'd be guessing at what your'e treating. Offer water and critical care mix or some type of baby food like squash, chicken, green bean all mixed with a bit of water. Do that a couple times a day if he'll take it. Most babies in that condition wouldn't survive, but at least he has a very slight chance. Did he take anything from the syringe ?

He has taken water from the bath and carnivore care with calcium. In his current state, no, we won't be doing any treatments but I guarantee he is loaded with coccidia so once he passes a good bowel movement and I run his fecal I want to be ready to treat if he's healthy enough and once we get him rehydrated and gaining in a couple of weeks.

The good news is once we got him warmed up and under his new UV lamp he opened an eye and moved a little.

Hello,

OH my, he does look sorrowful, but he does have hope now with you helping him out. Poor thing!
He is so tiny, too.
I am glad to hear you have gotten some food & fluids into him, also.
Definitely as suggested, do keep him a little warmer overnight to help out.
We are all rooting for Igor!

Thanks for the support, Tracie! We did get him to drink more fluids and carnivore care tonight so he's up to more than 0.5 mls for the day. After a soak tonight he passed out but still seems responsive (I was a little worried that he went listless), so I think he needs a good solid rest. I do think these first nights are crucial, I'm optimistic but know he's got the deck stacked against him and if he passes he will pass in a warm safe environment. We have brought them back before but never so emanciated for the size but I think it's huge he's voluntarily eating a liquid diet. He did try and nibble some super worm guts (it's our magic bullet when they don't eat or are too sick to be interested but still are conscious) but I think he's too weak to chew.--it seems he has MBD based on the skeletal look but it could just be contortion from muscle wasting.

Hello,

That is wonderful you did get more fluids & carnivore care into him. He is so tiny & it isn't surprising that he was so tired.
You are right, the first few days are crucial. I hope he is sleeping well because that will help tremendously. He probably is too weak to chew very much. You are giving him the best chance that he has! I am really pulling for him, he looks so sweet. At least he isn't alone now.

Well he's still eating, extremely weak though and hard to keep awake to feed. Has started opening both eyes and repositioning himself in the heat at least. Went twice today though with a pastey urate this evening. Already beginning to look much less dehydrated. Direct fecal was clear and we are doing floats tomorrow. Very very slow process getting food in him.

Float is positive for coccidia, hookworms, roundworms and pinworms. Numbers aren't high but there are a lot of degenerate looking oocysts. I'm guessing he's so sick his parasites are dying. Now comes the tough choice of when to treat.

His float could have been the textbook on what you can find in a beardie.... 8-(

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
