Hi there

i got a baby beardie 3 days ago, (named fidget) at the pet shop they said he is about 16 weeks old.
i was just wondering what they are meant to be eating at that age, i know to give him crickets and some greens, just wondering how many crickets he should be having a day?!
Since i got him the first night he didnt eat anything, the next evening he ate around 18 crickets and some cucumber but yesterday he didnt eat anything other then some cucumber and i tried some more crickets this morning but he didnt eat any.
At the moment he is shedding so could that or the fact that he is settling in have anything to do with him not eating alot.

Be grateful to hear any help or info.

Thanks.

Hi there,

Congrats on your new baby! Since he's a baby, you should give him as many crickets as he can eat within a 10-15 minute period, 2-3 times per day. Remember, crickets shouldn't be bigger than the space between his eyes.

As for veggies, here's a great list of things that are/aren't good for them.

Good luck and welcome. Oh and don't forget to post pics!

Thanks for your advice.

what about him only eating once so far in 3 days, do you think i should just give him a chance to settle in or could it be to do with him shedding or is it normal for them to be fussy eaters.
i bought a book on beardies when i got him but i cant find anything in there that answers my questions.

thanks.

Well it's most likely due to relocation stress. You said you just got him 3 days ago, so he's probably still getting used to his new surroundings. Just give him a few more days. It could also be because of the shedding. Some beardies tend to lose their appetites when they shed.

i wouldn't worry for a while even changing cages put bindi off is food. we had a hard time getting him to at for two weeks after the move. what i did was get together some greens (i use cilantro collard greens and musterd greens) and leave him a large salad. i put in a pile about the same size as he is in a shallow dish. if you want put in some baby beardie food pellets on top and also sprinkle some calcium dust on so you know hw's still getting his vitamins. then as he gets hungry he'll snack throughout the day. it may be hard to find him and feed him when he's in the mood to eat so having something there always will help plus it's a good way to get him started young on his veggies

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
