New baby beardie

I purchased a bearded dragon from a pet store recently for my husband for Christmas. We are very excited and very very looking forward to seeing how this lizard grows up to be part of the family. However too much disappointment I have to admit that I followed pet store advice which is just the worst thing you can do. However it seems like his baby is doing great and we're hoping that by following this forum any advice for anything that we might need to be addressed. My main question is I know that is living quarters are fine currently except he is missing his UV light. How long can he be without a UV we are using calcium powder for his cricket but still worry about lack of uvb. Thanks to this website we are able to learn sooo much.
It has no name until we know if its a girl or boy.
The pet store said it was four to six weeks old.
They call it a fancy beardie but it looks like a possible sand fire mix.
It is about six inches head to end of tail. Eats close to ten small crickets a day.
Prefers water drops on glass to water bowl.
It seems it started to shed a little since it rubs rubs face on rock. And even eye bulgded today.
Sometimes waves. Loves to bask
We have a. laser thermometer reads 105 -110 on the rock , 82-85 mid tank, and about 75 on the cool side. It doesn't get colder that about 70 or 72 at night.
Loves to hang off basking rock.
Was easy to handle first few days. Now a little skidesh we didn't realize he should chill out few days to few feeks before messing to much with him.
Temporarily using paper bags as substrate.
Can't get new subtrate or uvb for eight days more. Has been without uv for five days. Worried about that.

normally yes we live in North Texas. However we were experiencing a lot colder weather this winter than usual. The minute the Sun comes out and it's warm enough we're going to try to take him outside to get natural UV. Thank you for responding though I appreciate it.

beardies are supposed to get at a minimum of 5hrs of uvb a day. How soon are you planning on getting him/her a uvb bulb? a few days prob wont hurt anything to bad. but you want him under one as soon as possible. several people here use the flourescent tube lights(10.0 uvb) with fixures you can purchase at walmart for around $25. http://lightyourreptiles.com/index.html this is anouther good sight to use for cheap but good bulbs. they also have the best uvb bulbs avaliable the Arcadias, they are 12% compaired to the Normal 10% but 10% will work perfectly fine as they have been used for several years as the new 12's have just become avaliable in the U.S., But i do recommend gettign a UVB bulb for him sooner then later, and please avoid the compack flouresent bulbs they try to sell you in pet stores ( I fell for this) as they may hurt your new beardies eyes.

hope this helps, And good luck with your beardie hope to see some pictures!!

nothing beats natural uvb, I'm pretty sure it is 30 mins of natural uvb is worth the five hours tube uvb. So as long as it get warm you can take your beardie outside for 30 mins a day and be ok, I think as long as it's about 70 degrees your ok, but I'm not 100% on that so if someone with more experience knows and I'm wrong please correct me.

Wow first off excuse the typos please! Lol I have a happy report today. Although little "Yoda" has been skiddish with us , no surprise since Yoda is new, today my husband had her/him out on his chest and hand for about thirty minutes. Yoda was stressed first ten or so but then calmed down got lighter in color. For the first time since we got her when my husband put it back In The tank its belly was almost completely white. No stress. Yoda had been pretty grey underneath all the time except bedtime. This makes us happy. Wont bug Yoda again until tomorrow again for another thirty minutes. As for the bulb we will get it on the tenth and we move the tank toa sunny window for some rays. Thanks for the replies I love this forum. I have spent a lot of time so far reading and looking at pics. Have learned a lot!
Oh and we got sn exact measurement Yoda is only 5.5" long head to tip of tail. And has been w us since Christmas. Can't believe they would sell babies so young.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
