just set up my new glass tank. 75 gallons (48"x18"X22"). using a 150W repta-sun basking bulb which is about 12 inches away and the repta-sun 10.0 tube will be here wednesday, which is about 7 inches away. temps are sitting at about 92F at on the warm side and about 70F on the cool side. there is no top because i do not think my 6 1/2 inch baby can reach. the ten gallon viv he was in will be used for a feeder tank until he is bigger. I am way too excited to put the lil guy in there tomorrow. plz comment/suggest anything!!

i dont think so. he/she is about 7 inches from nose to tail and the closest point to the top is 6 1/2 inches. im thinking of moving it down about an inch or so. that way he/she is still about 8 in. from the UVB light. although i am worried about the heat lamp being to close but the temps arent working with me right now.

side note: i just watch the guy jump of the highest point he could jump from, which is about 14". that kinda scares me....i got a suicidal dragon here  LOL.

the green stuff is Eco-Carpet. $15 dollars at...PetSmart i think?? i like it. its in this tank and the feeding tank

Very nice looking setup, love the background. I'm concerned about you leaving the top off though because I have seen babies jump as far as 2 ft. Do you have a guard over the 150 watt bulb? If not, I would at least recommend getting one as babies are very curious and if he jumped onto that light, it would be drastic.

I think I see a digital with probe laying on the bricks, I just wanted to make sure that the temp on his upper hammock isn't too hot, what's the reading with the probe laying there? A temp of 70 is a little too cool, so you might want to consider using a low wattage household bulb on the cool side to get a temp of about 78 to 82.

He's gonna love all the extra room available to him now. :)

no guard over the bulb. didn't really think he would or could jump to it. the temp on the hammock was only 85 or so. im going to mess with it once more and re-post a pic. could i put the 75 basking bulb higher up on the cool side and maybe that would raise the cool side temp a little more??

Only 85 on the upper hammock? Are you indeed using a digital with a long wire & probe end and did you wait at least 45 min for the temp to stop rising?

You could try the 75 watt on the cool side but that might make it too hot. Might want to try a 40 or 60 household bulb to see what temp is then.

I bet the reason its not getting that hot could be because the bulb isnt on top of the basking spot, like on a screen. I think that would contain the heat better and it would be hotter. You also might consider using a halogen bulb, like a flood or a spot bulb, that would heat it up nicely. Just make sure you double check the temps before butting your baby in there.

thats what i thought too. im rearranging the whole thing. lol. the probe is 16" away from the 150W bulb now, on an angle, pointing straight at it and its been there for the past hour and its only reading 85F now and 69F on the cool side (where is sleeping currently). these temps are starting to annoy me but i want my guy to be good. grrrr!!! :x

im going to look for a screen but then i would have to raise everything to get him closer to the UVB, which then again im worried about him jumping down to the bottom of the tank. Should i move him back into the small tank for now then?? move him now while he is sleeping??

I wouldn't have him in the tank until you get the temps straightened out. I suggest leaving him in there tonight but moving him to the other tank tomorrow where you know what the temps are there. I would turn the lights off now so as not to disturb his sleep any further. Let us know what you find out tomorrow.

I went through kind of the same when moving my girls from their 29gallons to 4x2x2. It was hard getting the temps right also when I got my first beardie. I'd get a screen and use that, maybe consider using more rocks to build up a more gradual basking spot so you wouldn't have to worry about her jumping. Also a stone or rock contains so much more heat that a hammock. Just my two cents. Keep trying you will eventually figure it out!!

alright this seems to be working a little better for me. im going to go get the rest of what i need and finish the flooring the tank. temps were at 75 and 95 with the light on it for a couple hours. im going to put a regular bulb inside the left light (cool area) to see if that does any better than the 75W basketbulb. Also i figure the temps outside are going to be rising soon enough. Still one question...how do i bring the UVB tube light closer to him/her?

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
