Need new substrate

I recently got my beardie of 1 year a new viv, nearly double the size of his old viv in fact and i need to get a new substrate for him. I currently have garden tiles in there to file down his nails but i can cit his nails now so they are really not needed anymore. What substrate is the best to have other than tiles?

ATM i have 2 tiles in there but i need at least 2 more to fill the viv but not sure if the table its on will suppose the weight of the viv and 4 tiles :/ I was thinking about getting a repti-carpet to cover half to viv and then tiles on the other half.

I currently have 8 12"x12" tiles in mine. Stays warmer at night, easy to clean and trims her nails naturally. Trimming nails is tricky and can cause infections if not done correctly not to mention the pain caused by cutting to much off.
Repticarpet will "if pooped on" harbor bacteria and fungi..

Repti carpet is okay. You can wash and dry it if it's pooped on. That's what I did before I got tile. But I also use tile now, and for all the reasons listed above, it's MUCH better.

Thanks for all the input guys :D I think i will just tried and get thinner tiles so they weigh less and just have one section as repti-carpet which will be under his bed to keep it warm

Paper towels are lightweight, cheap, make it easy to see messes and easy to clean them up, and pose little if any risk for injury or impaction. About the only drawbacks that I can see is you have to keep replacing them (when they get pooped on you throw them away), and they won't do anything for keeping nails worn down so that you don't have to trim them. But they're also good to use in the meantime while you're shopping for something more permanent if you've decided to ultimately go with the tiles.

BTW, you may also want to consider getting a sturdier table for the new viv if you're worried about it being too heavy to the point that a few more tiles could be the "straw that breaks the camel's back". Better safe than sorry!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
