Hi, some of you may remember me and Georgie and her Respiratory Infection. Still having problems with her and would like some advice please.

Georgie has not ate voluntarily for about two months now following antibiotic treatment for an RI, even though I was giving her probiotics. Anyway, as I didn't feel she had improved completely after two courses of antibiotics, I bought some Reptaid XL and gave her a 10 day treatment of that. Surprisingly she finally ate, but it was just a small amount of mealworm (I know, I know, but I tried her on everything, including wax worms and this was all she would take). For the past week she has eaten a small amount of mealworms every day - about 8-10 and is still refusing everything else. Up until this point, I was syringe feeding her baby food, but when she started taking the mealworms I stopped as i figured her appetite was coming back and would increase. It is now a week later and she is still only eatting about 8-10 mealworms a day and nothing else. I was advised to give her a further 10 day course of Reptaid XL and she is a couple of days into this course. Today I also gave her some Bee's Pollen mixed in water as I believe this is an appetite booster. So now I just want to know is there anything else I can do and how long should I leave her just eatting a few mealies a day before I start the baby food again. I don't want her to starve :(

For those of you that don't know me, just a bit of background. Viv is 4ft by 2ft. UVB ReptiSUN 10, 75 watt basking light, paper towel substrate, cool side 90f basking 105-110f, measured by digital with probe.

Thanks for any help and advice and a big hello to my 'Lizard Ladies' Barbara, Tracie, Diane and MissT (haha, that's how I refer to you to my husband x) :D

Hi again...has anybody got any ideas? Don't want to bug you all, but there are a lot of posts on here at the moment that are resulting in beardies dying and it is really upsetting and worrying. I know my last post was quite long winded, so really all I need to know is how long should I leave it with her just eating really little before I start the baby food again. Thanks...and my thoughts are with everyone who has lost a baby recently x

Hello Toni,

I just saw your post!
So Georgie is on a food strike again?
So, the Repti-aid did not do much then?
I realize it is exciting to have him eat a little bit, but, the mealies are fatty & can become addicting to them to the point to where they wont eat anything else. So, unfortunately you are going to have to forego the mealies right now & try to get him to eat something else.
Keep using the Bee pollen daily, it will help boost the immune system as well as hopefully help the appetite.
Do you have crickets or roaches or any other type of worm that you can try perhaps? Phoenix worms or butterworms would be good for him, & a lot more healthy.
I forgot, you are using probiotics, right?

Also, the cooler end temperatures need to come down to more in the range of 78-82 so it is a possibility that he is getting overheated a little bit also. So, can you try to decrease those temperatures in the cooler end?

Hello Tracie, nice to hear from you.

Georgie isn't on hunger strike 'again'...this is still the same one which has gone on for about two months!

I think the Reptaid has definately helped, because until I started her on that she hadn't eaten at all! I have tried all feeders (well, the ones that are available), locust, supers, wax worms...I am going to order some silkworms or butterworms today, but they are not easy to get hold of here. I just thought that since she started eating a week ago, her appetite would increase and she would start eating normally again in time, so I stopped the baby food...should I start her back on baby food again????? She is getting probiotic in form of soya yoghurt which I give her with the Reptaid as she hates the taste! I will carry on with Bee's Pollen.

Will try to get the temps down a bit, buy I thought as she had a RI, they needed to be a bit higher :(

Hello Toni,

Oh geez, he hasn't been eating for awhile now!
Well, you can continue with baby food, but if he is not losing any weight go easy on the baby food. Otherwise, he will always stay a little full & his appetite wont fully come back because he is filled up with baby food.
You are correct, you can increase the temperatures when they have a respiratory infection but just on the basking side. The cooler end really shouldn't exceed 85. If there is no area in their tank that they can cool off, they can become heat stressed & they wont be able to properly cool off.
Oh yes, that is right, the soya yogurt. You can keep her on that as well as the Bee pollen. Keep trying. I didn't realize you were in the UK area. I know feeders are hard to get over there. Good luck with getting the feeders.

Keep us posted on Georgie!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
