Ok i have read multiple sites and forums and pages on Lighting and im still confused...

Now i was planning on building this.. http://www.freewebs.com/crossfireenclosures/index.htm

Now as you can see on the top of the tank theirs a long light fixture and to the right theirs a bulb..

Now correct me if i am wrong.. the long light is the reptisun 10.0 UVB http://www.undergroundreptiles.com/cart1/store_pages/detail_page.php?product_ID=120-34010

And the Bulb to the right is just a regular light bulb that gives UVA????

Is that all i need? just the 2 lights the UVB to the left and the UVA bulb on the right? also im guessing the left side will be the basking side with the UVB and the right side with the bulb is the cool side?

This is the UVB tube that you need.

The best ones are ReptiSUN10.0's or a 5.0 will do. But yes, that is what is pictured on the top of the crossfire. Also the other bulb can either be a flood lamp, regular house bulb, etc. As long as it provides the accurate temperatures, it's fine. However, avoid any red/blue/black bulbs. These can be harmful to the skin.

So yes, all you need is two bulbs. A source of UVB, and a heat bulb (already provides uva). Make sure your temps are accurate (95-110* on the warm side, 75-80* on the cool side) with a digital thermometer, not a dial.

Oh and the heat bulb (on the right), is the basking side. That's where they get their heat. The cool side should be the UVB side.

Hope this helps :)

One more thing. Also avoid any "coil" bulbs, whether it's uvb or a heat source. These are harmful for the dragon's eyes.

It's actual ideal if you can overlap your UVB bulb with your heat bulb so that your dragon can soak in UVB while he's basking.

For your basking bulb you can use a regular lightbulb or a halogen flood light - all you need is a bulb that puts out bright clear light and enough heat to get your temps in the desired ranges, no need to pay out extra for a petstore bulb.

You may find that the cool side of your tank is a bit dark. If that's the case you can use a household energy saver lightbulb (NOT the UVB kind!) to add light to your tank without affecting the temperatures. Dragons do best with lots of bright light :)

Hope I didn't just confuse things more for you.

Some people do use a 40g breeder tank (36 inches long x 18 inches wide) as their minimum adult tank size. IMO this is too small, since it doesn't provide the minimum 6-8 square feet of floor space that's recommended. The smallest tank size that does meet that is a 75g tank (48 inches long x 18 inches wide) and a tank this size would easily last your dragon his whole life.

also could you give me a link for a good basking bulb i could use .. the bulb on the right.. would it be one of these? also will that UVB light fit in any fixture or would it have to be one of these .. http://www.undergroundreptiles.com/cart1/store_pages/category_list.php?category_ID=30 thanks man alot

You do not want to get a "compact" top. These bulbs you want to stay away from. Here are three types of UVB TUBE fixtures you can use. However, because you are planning on building the crossfire enclosure, the 1st and 2nd ones are more recommended than the third because you will not have an "open" screen top.

The first would be the most convienent. Depending on the size bulb you want to get, get the size fixture accordingly. I'm not sure how long your enclosure will be. Most recommend to get a bulb that goes at least 50% across the enclosure. (A 4ft enclosure typically has at least a 24" UVB tube.)

And yes, ReptiSUN's are much preferred over the ReptiGLO's.
As for the Heating bulb, like the previous posters said, any household light bulb with enough wattage will work. Or a spot flood lamp. You could choose one from a petstore, but they are more expensive and do the same thing as a simple house bulb.

If you have any more questions, let us know :)

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
