Hi Lizzy is my 9 year old female beardie. She laid her first egg clutches last year, and had a horrible time laying her eggs, but we got through it with the help of our herp vet Dr Desenna. In April she laid a clutch of 22 eggs again with difficulty and more vet trips. She is now egg bound confirmed by X rays, has had 3 rounds of 0.2 ml progestin to try to Induce her to lay without any success. Along with fluid treatments and 2X daily doses of Calcionate Syrup 0.8 ml. I have been syringe feeding baby food chicken and veggies with calcium powder added and Dubai roaches and super worms when she will take them, but she’s not eating much. She is so egg bound she has difficulty walking and often flips onto her back and needs help to right herself.
I have been told the only thing I can do at this point is have her spayed, but she is in such poor condition she only has a 20% chance of pulling through.
Any suggestions of what I can do to help my sweet girl would be appreciated.
Lizzy’s setup
She has a 125 gal tank with several dens, a basking spot with temp of 102 degrees, she has uvb lighting which is changed every 6 months, she has a warm bath/ shower every other day. At this time 1/3 of her tank is a mix of sand and soil which is kept moist to encourage digging and egg laying.
Other pets in the home Sage 4 yr old male beardie, Spriggs a 10 year old female, beardie, Checkers 10 year old California King snake, Rusty 11 year old Corn snake, and Marty 4 year old cat. Each reptile has their own habitat that meets their specific needs.
Again any help is appreciated. Lizzy has both good and not so good days. I’m afraid for her, I don’t want her to be in discomfort, but I also don’t know how long I should try to keep her going. We’re checking in with her vet a couple of times a week.
