Need Help: I Don't Know How Much to Ask for Beardies...

Hello all! I have a bit of a problem. Unfortunately we have come to the conclusion that my wife is severely allergic to roaches and our roach colony. Not only that, I work 60 hours a week now and she works 40+ third shift, and we are having a hard time keeping up with all of our beardies. I am really sad, but I think two of our three lizards have to find a new loving home. :( They other guy we have had since he was an egg, and we can afford to feed him crickets from the store every few days.

The problem is though, I have no idea what to ask for all of my things. I would like them all to go together so I don't have bits and pieces remaining to get rid of. Currently I have:

- Male and Female Beardies - They are 2.5 and 3 years old. They are very cute but do not have bright color. They came from a pet store.

- One 150 gallon tank. It can ONLY be used for reptiles, not fish. Glass has small crack at the bottom.
It has 4 incandescent lights, 2 150w ceramic heaters (for the night time), and 2 uvb
lights

- Roach colony - There are what I am assuming are thousands of lobster roaches. It is a thriving huge colony in a 50 gal Sterelite tote.

I'm sorry for the question but I really have no idea what to ask for this. I don't want to give everything away because I did buy it all, but not looking to make a profit either.

I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions all you experts may have :)

Thanks,
Kevin

honestly, the price you set will determine how quickly they sell and what type of people they go to.

if you want them to go to a good home set the bar high and negotiate with them. do a 'or best offer' sale. ask lots of questions to make sure they understand how to take care of beardies and aren't just buying them ''cause they're cool'.

you can pay the $5 fee and post in the for sale section here, most people know their stuff and are looking for any little excuse to add onto their families.

Seriously dude don't do some outrageous 100$-200$ price it's a rehoming fee your not selling them u have to do like 75$ or they won't sell at all

that is way too low. that is the price of just a baby dragon. i have seen adult beardies going for as much as $150 on their own.

with the entire set up it will cost way more than that.

i would find out the price of all of the equipment separately, total it up and sell it at a lower price bundled together.
tag it as "all the equipment costs $1200 alone (or whatever price), but i am selling it for $800 with the beardies (or whatever price you want to sell)"
those numbers are just examples. i don't know the actual costs.

i would definitely look up the price of a used 150 tank. that will be the big seller. people will want to come and just take that. be prepared for those calls/emails/texts.
and make sure you tell them they are responsible for picking everything up - no deliveries or shipping. too many problems with shipping a tank (plus the costs!!).

or you can try selling it as "beardie needs rehoming. $XXX for 2 plus all the equipment." then list all the stuff.

it will be harder to sell both beardies together imo. so don't expect it to happen within a week. you can always sell the roaches (craigslist!) and get other feeders for now until you are able to sell the beardies.

stating the date of the UVB will also help.

$100-200 for everything would be outrageous, but outrageous as in, super crazy low for an enormous tank and beardies and supplies.

I'm thinking at the very least $400 or 500 for everything? Not sure though.
Some people might be interested in purchasing things separate things as well, like just the tank or just one of the dragons, etc. So you may want to add whether the items are absolutely a package deal or whether you'd be willing to sell individual "pieces". And I agree with bunnyrut; lots of people are looking for an excuse to add a new beardie, so an ad in the For Sale section here wouldn't be a bad idea! :)

It's a bummer that you're in a situation where you have a question like this in the first place though (giving up beardies that is). :( I'm sorry, I'm sure it's not easy at all! :( :( :(

I don't think $100-200 is way too low at all. If I were looking for a new beardie, I would definitely not pay, say, $500 for everything that was included.

OP if you're just looking to find a good home, I think $250 would be reasonable if you take all the necessary precautions of screening the people who contact you.
A cracked 150 gallon tank might go for around $100 depending on the condition of the glass and if to comes with a stand. I would price both beardies for $75-100. The accessories could probably sell for $100. The colony itself could probably be worth $60.

Those are just how I would individually price those items if I were selling them and without seeing anything. They add up to about $360. If you are a little strapped for cash, I would feel that $300-350 would still be fair for everything included. Ask if they're going to be used for breeding and, if you're comfortable with that, if they have experience with it. Ask if they know the UVB schedule and when to change lights. Ask lots of questions. A dedicated keeper probably wouldn't be discouraged by them. If you wanted to sweeten the pot a bit, you could say that you're selling the beardies, tank, and accessories for e.g. $300 but you'll throw in a thriving roach colony for free.

This would probably be your best option as you can generally get a feel for what type of person a prospective adopter is by reading past posts and histories. I've sold a few things via Craigslist and I've had misgivings about selling someone a washer before... You tend to get all kinds from that site.

In my eyes if I ever had to let Zeus go I would find someone I feel like I can trust and would charge them 75-100$ that's it but everyone has there own opinions

I just thought of that (posting in For Sale & then reading past posts to get an idea of whether the person knows what they're doing) and came back here to add it, but RM beat me to it! So, +1 to that idea :)

Im sorry you have to get Rid of your beardies< im sure that wasn't an easy decision :(
But..

Let me know if you decide to sell seperately, been thinking about starting a roach colony, buying an established one sounds much easier :)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
