A friend of mine has two dragons from Petsmart. Both are small, 12" and about a year old. One has this odd growth on his back. He seems incomfortable when I would touch the growth. They are on correct calcium w/D3 but the housing is not good. I am bringing them my small repitsun tube and told them to take him to a vet ASAP.

Has anyone seen this before???

I am no expert but I wonder if it is a fungus of some sort. i see you arent getting answers so I would PM Drache613 and ask her.
12" for 1 yr old is extremely small. Mine is 17" long at 14 months.
The UVB is quite important and yes the dragon MUST BE SEEN by the vet ASAP.

Thanks for the replies. I gave them the number to the local herp vet. I gave them my 18" ReptiSun 10.0 tube, as they were using a reptiglo coil that Petsmart sold them. The two beardies are housed together in a 55g breeder and are on ground up shells... The male (in the pic) is over a year old and the other one, a girl I think, is almost a year. Both are the same size. I also gave them this website for reference... I hope things turn around for those babies. :(

Please have your friends remove the shells IMMEDIATELY and replace with tile, carpet, paper towel, newspaper. Shells cause impaction. Their beardies should be separated immediately as well. I am glad you gave them your reptisun--will they now have a bright bulb and a UVB bulb.

I will advise them to take out the shells. I told them yesterday that it wasn't good and that I use tiles due to the risk of impaction. They do have a basking light but no thermometers. I told them to go to Walmart for a digital thermometer with a probe. I am so angry at Petsmart! The woman there said she had dragons and this was the right way to care for them. So terrible.....

Thank you for the replies.

Just an update... the vet confirmed that it was a fungus and he cut it off. He gave them a topical to put on it and told them that they needed more heat. Hopefully the dragons will do better now. Thanks for the advise!

Glad to hear they went to the vet and all was taken care of. Hopefully they will follow the advice given by the vet and provide adequate heat, along with taking your advice and reading up on this site and asking lots of questions. :study:

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
