Need help asap- ventilation in glass tank + wooden lid

Hi everyone,
I just need a little help with trying to make suitable ventilation in my 50g glass terrarium. It has a wooden lid with arcadia tube and a CHE above the basking spot, temps are looking alight with the basking spot at 40C and cool side 28C. My bearded dragon is just under 3 years old (male). I was thinking of making holes on the sides of the lid rather than on top so heat would't escape? Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,

Do you have any pictures you could post just so we could see what the tank looks like?
Usually side ventilation is just fine. What type of thermometer are you using to measure the temperatures with?
The 40C & 28C are fine for the basking & the cooler end for an adult.

Hi!
I will try get a photo up when I can, we've just made two holes about the size of a child's palm on both sides of the lid and all seems well... there's no drop in temp so it should be ok Thanks for the help. Do you guys think wooden enclosures would be a better idea in the future? Seems easier to put in ventilation/hold heat ? thanks

I have a glass enclosure but I leave the top off of it and there is adequate ventilation. The top I have is made of mesh screen so even when it's on it provides a lot of ventilation. Perhaps you can build some kind of lightweight frame to hold some screen/mesh in place that will provide ventilation.
