okay we have a large cage for bindi. it is four feet by two feet by two and a half feet tall. the lighting fixture are mounted inside. with a normal basking light (wide beam and i think 75 watt) he is about two feet away from the light. it has small vents all around the back top and to larger vents on each side. plexi glass front sliding doors. subrtate is tile and a large slab of slate for his basking. what would be the best light to get him for his cage in terms of heat. abiant tempature has always been on the low side. and his basking spot is hot but not hot enough. but when i go up the the 100watt the basking spot gets too hot. so basically what would you suggest for getting the ambiant tempature up to a warm enough level?

Hello,

If you want to get the basking temp up and don't want use a higher watt bulb, then maybe raising the basking spot would be ideal for your set up. If you are wanting to raise ambient temps, a lower watt bulb on the coolside would do the trick. Even putting a lower watt bulb on the coolside will raise your basking temps a bit.
What temps are you getting for basking, coolside and ambient?
What are you measuring your temps with?

Unfourtunately the way the cage is built I don't have a way to build in another lighting source. The basking spot is in the high 90's to low 100's but the ambient is only in the 70's. I use a digital probe thermometer so I'm confident in the accuracy of the temps

Unfortunately, the only way I see you getting higher ambient temps is with another heat source in the viv.
You don't think that you could wire in another fixture on the coolside?
Raising the basking spot will definitely get basking temps warmer. Can you possibly use a higher watt basking bulb and lower the basking spot, so that it doesn't get too hot?
The only other thing I can suggest is maybe blocking a vent or two to try and keep some of the heat in.
Someone else may reply with a better solution. This is all I can come up with.
Hope that it helps some :D

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
