Please note that reptile stores currently have a recall on several National Geographic Entrée foods due to high levels of bacteria. We wanted to also help with getting the word out. Below is a list of the specific foods in question.

Thank you, Alex! You are amazing! I purchased some of the National Geographic beardie bites (that looked like peas) about a month ago and added them to slurries for my crew. I appreciate the comprehensive list you posted, but I cannot remember exactly if "Entree" was on the package I used.

Hoping to find pictures of the packaging of either the bites or the entree, or both, I searched the internet for the National Geographic product recall and found nothing, then looked at the Petsmart site, but the products (and pictures) have been removed.

My crew seem to be okay, but we know how long it takes sometimes for dragons to show illness. I am especially concerned for my special needs girl.

If you or anyone can help me figure out whether or not the bites I fed my kiddos were contaminated, you would sure help reduce my currently sky-high level of concern.

Thanks again for bringing this to our attention,
Esther

Well, I have to certainly give credit to Deb (sweetiepie9), who brought it to my attention and provided the picture.

Glad it has helped you, though. :)

I've been trying to search online, but the only "beardie bites" that I found were made by Nature Zone. I can't find anything online about the recall either, but I do see that there was a salmonella outbreak earlier this year that was linked to BDs. Maybe the ones you bought weren't made by National Geographic?

I tried them for mine. They maybe ate a few at first but then didn't want anymore. My bag is on the list. What would happen if they ate bad food? Would it be like food poisoning and be a temporary thing?

Thank you for the info!! I bought a small bag to offer to my Beardie....he was not interested; thank goodness. It has been sitting in my fridge; I just now threw the bag in the trash.

Thanks very much, Tommy. Those were exactly the ones I used. The whole bag full went into slurries, at the rate of 1/5 pkg. per slurry which included collards, mustard greens and water. Each mixture yielded 1 cup of slurry after straining.

Does anyone know what bacteria is involved, if it can be tested for, or what symptoms might present if the bacteria has adversely affected dragons?

I found this on a rescue site I belong to on Facebook, but there wasn't any more information than the picture posted. I'll check if there was anything further in the post & let you know.

I have a package of the juvenile bearded dragon entrée being recalled. Here is a picture of the UPC code as it appears on the package. There is also a phone number on the package 1-800-806-7870. Hope this helps. Luckily Heisenberg didn't like it and never ate any of it.

Thank you very much! I will give them a call. :)

Update: That number was for Petsmart. I asked what caused them to recall the products; whether there has been illnesses or fatalities connected with it. I also asked what type of bacteria had been found. He very helpfully read me the text written under the products on Alex's original post, and said that perhaps my local store would have more info.

The manager of the local store helped the associate find their email related to the recall. She stated that the recall was voluntary, not mandatory, and that they had not received any information as to the cause of the recall or the type of bacteria concerned.

I guess I'll just have to watch my crew for signs of any adverse affects.

Thanks to all of you for your help!
Esther

Well I haven't heard anything more about it either, so hopefully, Esther, your crew are fine. And I'm so glad Robin Lynne that Heisenberg didn't like it. If I hear anything through the other rescue sites, I'll post it here.

Thanks Alex and Deb for the information. I've got a small bag of the adult and the juvenile bearded dragon bites in my fridge. I guess it's good that none of mine would really eat them (well Tonks ate one, but that was it). I guess I need to call my Petsmart to see if I need the receipt (cause I'm really not sure where is went). I'll be making a trip out there tomorrow to take them back.

I had both crested gecko (for my daughter's blue tongued skink) and bearded dragon entrees. None of the animals seemed very interested...and it smelled bad. I think they ate a little of it, only when mixed with other foods. That was a month ago and they are all fine.

I returned both bags to Petsmart and they gave me merchandise credit. If you have your receipt you get cash back I believe. Just return it to Petsmart and get the credit to buy something else in store.

I've done a bit more research, the recall was for salmonella but I haven't heard of any beardie being sick, which is good news.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
