Hi ! I just recently, in the last month or two, changed Malys's substrate from cocoa peat to ceramic tiles. I did read on here that other than being easier to keep clean it would help keep their nails filed. I hadn't noticed until the other day that they were filed down quite a bit on her back toes and i'm a little concerned...they're quite short, only about 3mm's from where they start. She's also not resting them on the ground when she's on all fours...she's holding them up in the air a bit.

I had cut her nails before and was told by my vet just to cut the very tips of the nails and the rest is part of the quick.

Should i put something over the ceramic tile for a bit, like newspaper or something?

Thanks!

Are the nails bleeding? Usually, if they are cut/worn down past the quick they bleed. Do you have any pictures?

No, i checked for blood and didn't see any. In the meantime, i put newspaper over the tiles so it doesn't get worse.

thanks for your replies, i'll try and get a picture up tonight

LOL ! I thought of putting some towels down but imagined the mess i'd have to clean off them.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
