I don't have any stone or tile in my tank but what if I put the really smooth sandpaper at the front where he doesn't lay down and just kinda walks over? The really really smooth one where if you rub it it doesn't even feel harsh, that kind. Would that be okay for wearing down the nails?

You could use that or a rough stone. You can trim his nails manually too. It's not too hard if you can get him to sit still for a while. You may need to do one hand, let him run around, try a foot, run around, etc. You can use nail clippers and just run them along the back of the nail until it catches right at the tip. Clip the sharp tip off and it will last for a while. I usually keep some corn starch handy in case I nick a blood vessel (to stop bleeding) but that's never been an issue. Once you've done it once it's easy to get the hang of and is really no big deal.

I bought a pair of special nail clippers (believe designed for use on birds) which are great , my guys (2 adult beardies, 2 adult bluetongue skinks and even my little adult water skink) all tolerate having their nails trimmed (I have to use a magnifying glass to see the water skink's nails clearly enough .... wish I was young and didn't need glasses for reading and fine stuff but this happens was you age).I just do it about the same as I feed them (I hand feed all mine - insect meals) or when it's cuddle time and give lots of petting while doing it so they remain happy and relaxed.

This is pretty much identical to what I use : http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Bird-cockatiel-budgie-canary-nail-claw-clippers-scissors-cutters-/261815134071?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item3cf565e777

You've also reminded me that all my scaley 4 legged children are due for their next nail trimmings about now.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
