Hello! My Beardie is 18 months old and she was given to me by a relative that wasn't taking good care of her and didn't have the time for her. Ok a veterinary assistant but my exotics knowledge is limited so I'm seeking some advice! I've read that I need to trim her nails and I was just curious how to best go about this sense she had not had them trimmed before. Do Bearded Dragons have a quick like dog and cat nails that I need to avoid? What is the best tool to use to trim? I've seen some videos of people using human nail clippers but I worry they will hurt her. Any advice / guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you so much!

Hello, I personally would not trim their nails. It can be a stressful and possibly dangerous if you hit the quick and it gets infected (although it probably wont happen). To keep their nails filed dow, you can use slate tile or a rough rock and just put those in his cage. Hope this helped! :D

I think you trim too much off and draw blood. I never have , but I only ever take at most 2-3mm off the tip of the nails with mine , maybe a 2 - 3 times a year.

I pick a time when they are relaxed (ie having a snuggle / pampering session on my tummy/chest) and gently slide the business end of the clips to the spot and snip, they don't even notice it's being done.
I've even done this with little skinks (Wriggles was only 30g) to stop the nails from over growing and had to use a magnifying loop because her nails were so small, and she didn't mind either.

I use these https://www.worldforpets.com.au/products/45643

Thank you both for the great advice! She's got a rock in there now so we shall see how that works! ??

Aegean my dragon is 11 months and his nails/claws are getting pretty sharp and i don't think i would dare trim his nails as the actual overlap of the nail is far too close to the quick. I think the rock will do good for you, and I've purchased one for him too now. Hopefully it will help

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
