My new snake has problems.

I got a Ball Python a few months ago (named him "Hunter), but I didn't realize until about 2 days after I brought him home that Hunter had a respiratory infection. I took him to the vet and he gave me some medicine, which I've been force feeding it to him (and he always tries refusing to swallow it so I gently rub his throat until he does). It's been a while now, the medicine is almost gone (the vet gave me A LOT of it), and Hunter still have an infection. Does it take a while or am I doing things wrong?

Hunter's cage's hot spot is 93 degrees F.

Humidity needs to be 60%, if it's not that could be a problem. Also, why not injections? They are far more effective than oral meds, and easy to give...

We rescued a Children's Python with a RI. We're giving him injections. I thought the humidity should be lower when they have a RI?? We could be screwing up!

The vet didn't recommend injections since I have no idea where to stick the needle.

Low humidity is usually what causes an RI in the first place with tropicals, the opposite with low humidity species...that coupled with improper temps. We always increase the temps a bit, get the humidity to normal levels and give injections. Haven't had one in a while, but that's whats been recommended by our vet. The thing about lowering the humidity is that if the cause of the RI (low humidity) is there while treating you run the risk of running in place. If their designed to operate in 60%, their healing process will be faster, feed response better, you name it when they're in that environment.

OH CRAP!!! Thanks!! We got alot of work to do!!

We rescued the snakes 2 weeks ago from a woman who had them in a heated room, no belly heat, most of them in 10G tanks in a 2x4 rack. We haven't changed a thing, we heated the boys room to 82-84, but the humidity is in the 30%'s. I haven't changed anything because we're not sure what we're going to do. We can't keep them all. We're going to the reptile show on Sunday so we'll get some UTH's and a thermostat and give them some belly heat. And control the humidity.

Well, Hunter is starting to get over RI, but he may be going blind now! He bumps into many objects (sometimes going as fast as he can) and I waved my hand really fast and close to his face to see if he'd flinch (coming withing 1 cm to his eyes) and there was no reaction. He also stopped eating two weeks ago. Should I take him back to the vet?

On a side note, I was looking at pics of different of BPs, and I noticed he looks like a Yellowbelly. Is he?
