Yeah, through his entire growing stage Rexy ate 1000 crickets in about 10 days. Your beardy should be eating way more than 5 crickets a day. He should be eating at the very least 25-30 crickets twice a day or something is wrong. Also, the crickets should be no larger than the space between his eyes. You’re not feeding full size crickets, are you?

gettingdragon, I took a look at this picture and he looks very thin. He had no fat stores on his head or at the base of his tail, his legs look very thin and you can see his ribs. We want to help him improve but you need to work with us.

You really should make some changes to help him improve.
1. The coil UVB is dangerous and quite a few beardies have died because of using them. Perhaps you should do a search of "coil UVB's" on this forum and read about all the problems. A distance of 7" from this terrible bulb has to be doing damage.
2. Feeding lettuce is not a good food item. Here's a list that shows the best to feed: http://www.beautifuldragons.503xtreme.com/Nutrition.html
3. It doesn't sound like you are using a digital thermometer with a probe end, laying it on the basking area, waiting about 45 min for the temp to stop rising, then getting the final reading. Temps are very important, especially for a baby.
4. Since babies should get calcium 5 days a wk, 1 feeding a day and vitamins the other 2 days a wk, 1 feeding a day, mixing them together is not recommended. Too much of either can do beardies harm.

Once you make these changes, you should see his appetite increase. He may also have parasites and that will also affect their appetites, so a fecal check would be a good idea.

u guys, its not like he is dying and he was skinny i know that but now he is eating 25 a day...i was giving him all he could eat so stop blaming me for everything, its up to the beardie how many he wants to eat, i wasn't only giving him 5 a day, that just what he ate, and now he eats 25 a day, so i don't know what happened but he eats more so get off my (bad word removed by moderator) case....i will upload new pictures of him to show u if u want...

No need to get so upset everyone is trying to help.I have a thought here also.What size crix are you feeding him?I am just wondering if the reason he isnt eating as many as he should be is because they are larger then what he supposed to be eating.The rule of thumb is the crix should be no bigger then the space between his eyes.If they are bigger then this they can cause impaction and obviously he would be eating less because the crix are bigger.Is this possibly the case?Glad to hear he is eating better either way.

I don't think that's fair to respond to anyone that was trying to help you in that way. You asked for advice and we gave it. We also suggested you make changes to help him improve. Have you been able to make the changes? Did you replace the coil bulb with a good UVB? That is good that he is eating more though.

If you want people to treat you like an adult, then I suggest you start acting like one. For as long as you continue to act like a 1st grader, then that is how you will be treated. Your bearded dragon is a living breathing creature that YOU have decided to take into your care. That makes YOU responsible for him and EVERYTHING he needs. I suggest you stop being so defensive and concentrate your energy towards doing the right thing for your pet. If it comes down to the fact that you cannot afford to provide him with the specific care that he needs, including products that will not harm him vs. The ones that will, then maybe he should be re-homed.

EVERYBODY here has been more than kind to you and we have all tried to help. You are just getting all pissy because you would rather take on the pet store advice, that everyone here has learned to be wrong. The “Are you serious?” comment that I posted to you was not meant to make you feel inferior, it was a serious question. Do the legwork, do your research, but don’t come onto a public forum where there are many keepers that are much more advanced than yourself and start spreading lies.

Bad UVB lights are nothing like the chances of being bit by a shark, they have been proven over and over again to kill beardies. That was an uneducated statement, you did not do your research, and I think I speak for all of the long time keepers here when I say that we try our best to make sure that everything posted on this forum is accurate and in the best interests of the dragons.

Coil UVB’s are not helpful to any beardy. If you want to ignore the advice, then fine, ignore it. But don’t go acting like it’s not going to affect your beardy’s health, because somehow he is special and different from the rest. That is just insulting to the rest of us who are on here day after day trying to help people and their wonderful dragons. You want people to not treat you like a child, the answer is simple....Quit acting like one!

gettingdragon, we are trying to help and have your beardies health in mind. I remember about 2 months ago, reading a thread where you were quite strict about another owner not listening, having the wrong lights, etc and you informed them of what was best and you were right on with what you mentioned. Now, we're trying to help you in the same way and are hoping you will listen and do the right thing. Unfortunately coil bulbs have killed some beardies, so hopefully you will help him by changing it soon. But, if not, there isn't much more we can do, we tried.

all i can say is i completely agree with you guys!!! with out this site and the people on it i would have ALL the wrong things and my bd would not be healthy at all because my petstore said the same things about feeding!!! they said only allow them to eat 2-6 crix a day because anything over would make them unhealthy and then gave me a bag with 12 crix in it and told me it should last about a week!!! i agreed with them just to keep out of an arguement and just bought more crix when i got home!!! lol and they also told me that papertowles are bad for them to be on and they convinced my mom to buy this moss stuff and when i got home i laid paper towles down too lol although some pet stores have good intentions... they just give the wrong info and im sorry but that was wrong for him to treat you guys like that and i am sorry for his behavior... you are all really nice people with good intentions and he just didnt want to listen!!! but it is his loss and i feel horrible about the baby beardie!!! i cant believe he said it was a stupid lizard and that a hamster is probably smarter than him!!! just shows how some people love their animals and some people just cant care for them the right way.. they only want them to say they have them but i just wanted to give extra thanx to the people of this site for helping me through my first beardie!!!

It is not unfortunite for my bearded, he full and getting bigger by the day, eating his greens now and eating as many meal worms or crickets as he wants to...i would just like to take a moment..............................................................................................................................................
