After the recent death of my beardie, my neighbor said I could have hers. I still have to wait another week to get him but, I went over there yesterday.

He is stained completely blue from the colored sand.
He is verrrrrrry skiny.
I put my hand in the cage and he hisses and black beards at me.
His cage is COVERED in feces.
They feed him bacon and mandarin oranges?????

I will be posting pictures as soon as i get him!

All of those things sound terrible! Except the fact that you are getting him! I really hope it all goes well. Pictures and more pictures!!! Also, be careful switching him to good food because his tummy will go crazy...

it is great that you are taking him. That sounds like a terrible living arrangement for him to be in.
Good luck with him and hopefully it won't take long for him to stop hissing at you once he figures out you are helping him.

Bacon and oranges? What are people thinking? :banghead:

I mean, I kinda understand when people go awry because they followed a pet store's care info, but surely no pet store was ignorant enough to offer this advice!

Geesh...

Good luck with the little fella. Keep us updated on his progress!

Piece of advice on the rescue, it may be good to go with baby food to start him off. That way you don't hurt his stomach with something that he's not used to digesting.
However after digesting bacon... yikes... and citrus fruits, those are supposed to be a very rare food, if at all. I'm shocked he's still alive after that diet.

I'm having the same reaction to the bacon and oranges - :puke: where does anyone, anywhere, suggest these as food for a dragon?????

Actually, my guess on food is that a standard diet will settle in reasonably well after eating bacon and oranges, and a few crix, a little squash and collard, might be a very happy change. But to go slow, make sure he is digesting any food any food you give him, and keep the baby food handy, just in case the solid food is not being digested. Sounds like a good bath will be the very first order of business!

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
