I sent zoomed a complaint, what do you guys think about it?
"Hello, The past few weeks I have been researching bearded dragons, mainly in the forum of Beardeddragon.org, I have finally purchased items to start out. Your MVB is one of them. Ever since I got it on the eleventh of this month I have had it running to get the temps correct. I have given it enough time to burn in (which you must have forgotten to tell the novice costumers in your instructions is necessary to maintain a consistent temp in other MVBs). Well, it has been extremely inconsistent for it's temps. So I looked into it on the forum. What I found is that it is dangerous and not only is it inconsistent in temps but also UVB rays. Here are some links - the main topic - the sub topic. If you have not heard this complaint before than I most certainly should get my money back, and if you have then why have you not taken this product off the shelves. Thank you."

That's the thing.. Company's lie to their customers in the hopes that they don't do research about their products.. Just like how the American government lies to their citizens about basically everything that's going on. I doubt anything will really happen from your complaint, as it would be to expensive for them to remove these products and/or fix them.. It is a good thing to bring up to their attention though. Definitely worth a email.

Don't just email that letter, back it up with a through the snail mail system too. Companies have a way with respecting hand written, mailed to them with a stamp letter, voicing concerns. An email will most likely be rebuffed if not ignored, however one that comes to them via snail mail...

Well, I got my reply. They are a very thick skinned bunch. Heres what they said

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us. Out self ballasted mercury vapor bulb, the Powersun UV, does not have a “burn in” period like the compact fluorescent Reptisun bulbs have. IF the light is visibly dimming, there may be a problem with the bulb which would affect the heat output. If the bulb is not dimming, the inconsistent temperature may be a result of temperature fluctuations in your home or other heating elements on or near the enclosure. The UVB output of these bulbs is not harmful to an animal as long as it is used at the proper distance. UVB is essential for vitamin D3 synthesis which is necessary for calcium absorption. Without these processes animals may experience metabolic bone disease. If you are displeased with your bulb you can try to return it to the store that your purchased it from (not all stores take returns) or you can send it to us at the address below along with a copy of your receipt, your full name and mailing address and we would be happy to replace it with a new Powersun UV. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

I am glad to hear you wrote ZooMed. My Megaray burned out before I had a chance to order another. I bought a PowerSun 100 at Petco as an emergency measure (85.00). Just a few days later Zeus started closing her eyes and becoming lethargic. I did some research here, and, as a result immediately stopped using the PowerSun, until I could get her to the vet. Her eyes are inflamed and she's got some sort of infection in her mouth. She's on eye drops now, anti-inflammatory meds, and a broad spectrum antibiotic. Fortunately, my vet stocks MegaRays as Reptiluv tells me the bulbs are on back-order.

Petco did let me return the PowerSun, fortunately. But if the light was the culprit, it did some bad damage, though thankfully, her corneas are OK the vet says. I've just put in the MegaRay, and certainly hope it helps.

By the way, Zeus has learned to bite through syringes for the meds. Yesterday, the vet and I had to pry her mouth open and hold her upside down to get the plastic bits out. She won't lick the meds off her nose. Anyone have any new ideas for giving antibiotics?

Hello,

I am sorry that Zoomed was not cordial nor helpful with your complaint. They have not been good with most if not all of the complaints that have come in regarding their recent Powersun 100watt MVB which in my opinion is totally unprofessional. It really bothers me that a company that claims to care for reptiles cannot take care of its human customers as well.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
