I've had a baby beardie for about 2 weeks now, and I've been having a tremendously difficult time getting her to eat. She won't go after crickets, and I only saw her eat one small mealworm (no worries, I don't actually feed her mealworms! It was a one time go just to see if she would eat anything). I've also gotten her to eat veggies in VERY small amounts, but she won't really eat those either. I spoke to a reptile specialist earlier today and he said that all of the temperatures were correct, and to try soaking her for a bit, then letting her bask for a bit, and then add in the crickets. So I tried taking his advice. I placed 10 or so of the crickets that he had given me in her tank (with calcium) and watched. She showed absolutely zero interest in the crickets. Then suddenly, a tiny moth flew into her tank and her eyes quite literally lit up. She went after it and caught it faster than I could get it out of the tank. I'm confused--clearly she seems hungry, so why wouldn't she go after the crickets? The fact that it could fly seemed to entertain her, but the problem being that none of the pet stores near me sell flying feeder insects of any sort.
Does anyone have any advice on why this happened, and what I can do to get her to eat??
