I'm a bit concerned where this thread is heading. Everyone is right, he needs to be taken to a vet and if you don't have money, then I'm sorry but you never should of got the dragon in the first place. I do not wish for this taken personally, or I am saying you are a bad owner but it is really really important to make sure you think first before you get any animal. Can I afford to care for this animal despite hiw long it may live for? Do I have enough money? What will happen if the animal is to get sick?

As much as we may want some pets, sometimes it is best to leave it if we don't have the money we just have to let it go, or otherwise things like this happen. Reptile vets are very expensive yes, even for people who would have money for bearded dragon care, but you did mention you don't often have money to even by him food. Please, not just to you but anyone, think before you get animals! Please!

When I'm around the age of 16 I'll be thinking about getting another beardie, maybe 18 perhaps. I'll be self sustaining and I'll buy the best possible stuff so he could have the best life. Heck, maybe I'll buy 2 so he could have someone to socialize with.

Just a tip if u plan to get two in the future, don't put them in the same tank they are solitary animals and don't need friends, so sorry for your loss tho

Please do not house them together, you will just end up with more dead beardies. But please as I said earlier, take a long time to think about getting another bearded dragon would be the right option. I'm sure you wouldn't want this scenario to happen all over again. Speak to your parents and make sure that this can be something that can be taken into consideration.

But I am sorry to hear about your loss.

Do your research as well please, no offense but it is important to know it is extremely important to not house beardies together. I am not in your situation, so I have no right to make harsh opinions or stand ground on a subject but one thing that upsets me very much is when animals are bought and some people have no idea what they are handling with, dealing with and what is to come in the future. I could say this one thousand times but do your research and think first! Bearded dragons aren't your simple little pet they require alot of care and knowledge! I understand it was very hard for you to get a vet, but no dragon becomes sick by himself or just out of the blue, especially the condition he was in. Even before you get a dragon, ask question you might ask when you even have the dragon like what are sickness symptoms and stress or whatever. I just hope that when you do get these dragons in a couple years time you for sure 100% know what your doing.

I have seen many pets die because of this, not just on the internet, in real life too! It was because they didn't research and plan and didn't take the signs of their sick animal seriously. Yes, dragons are hard to tell when they are sick, but signs since march is very well clear.

I'm sure you are very upset for the loss of your dragon, and I'm sure you did everything in your power to save him and yes your parents may of not allowed you to take him to the vet. But there is only one explanation for the cause of his death and it's malnourished, done either by yourself or your parents. Please take this as a huge life lesson and use it.

I do not wish to upset you, put you down or shame you in anyway, that is the last thing I wish to do. I am just hoping I can give some advice and hope to teach not onky yourself, but many others about the importance of what I am trying to express.

I'm so sorry for your loss, you really tried to get some help on here the best way you could. Maybe you will enjoy getting another one down the road. If + when you do, you can come on here for advice if you need it and to introduce your new dragon. If people begin their attacks, just report to one of the mods. or to the owner of this site who kindly took it upon himself to weigh in.

And Chanza , beardies DO get sick on their own....they have heart attacks, strokes, kidney disease, gout, aneurisms and other diseases that come out of the blue, some with the very " best " of set ups + care and many still die despite vet intervention. This forum is full of those . And this happens to people who have " done their research " as well as some who seem less informed. It seems that there's no more need for " advice " to be given here.

All my sympathy to you Mav.

Yes but this dragon didn't have any of those, I did write especially with his situation. But yes I get your point and will consider that next time.

I said " and other diseases". We and you don't know what it did or didn't have. And it was not starved, the o.p mentioned that he fed it 10 -15 times last month which is acceptable under most circumstances for an adult dragon.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
