Well you should have told us your age a long time ago, we didn't know that. However, if "you are the only one that cares about this lizard" then that means that your parents certainly won't care if you surrender him to a reptile rescue. They'd most likely be happy about it, since apparently it's their fault that their son has a pet that doesn't get fed.

I'm sorry you're going through this, but this is a life lesson that you're learning early, and the difficult way. It's certainly not your fault that you were allowed to buy a pet, or someone purchased you a pet, and then they refuse to even buy food for it. I have no idea what the situation was or what agreements were made when you got the lizard, but that isn't what matters right now anyway.

I give you credit for trying to get them to take him to a vet, I really do, but the more time you wait to rehome him to a rescue the less likely he is to survive, and the longer he is suffering in pain. So I'm willing to help you in any way I can, if I was within driving distance to you I'd come pick him up and take him to an animal hospital.

I just hope you understand that he is in horrible pain, and he doesn't have much time left. We're not saying this to be mean or to scare you, but because it's true, and it is animal abuse and neglect. Not by you, but your parents. It's not fair to him, and now that I know why this poor beardie is starved it's even more frustrating, because it's not fair to you either.

I appreciate that you care about him, but I would think since you care about him you would want to get him to a rescue to try and save his life, or at least to end his suffering.

I'm sorry about this, the whole situation sucks all the way around. Just know that this isn't your fault, a 13 year old cannot pay for a pet's food, necessary equipment, and it's vet care due to neglect. But I still think it's you that can actually save him, because it's you that can make the decision to surrender him to a rescue.

Poor guy, I am a animal lover and I won't let my kids get an animal if I can't commit to it.Better have a kid that's mad at me than let a animal suffer. And this we see often and wish it would stop.Dont have money for vet or don't have the age to get money then don't buy a animal.Dont let your kids buy an animal if you are not involved..
Hopefully he calls a rescue...

I don't think people need to be replying and telling a 13 year old or even a 31 year old that it's their fault their dragon is in bad shape + it's dying because of them. The dragon had a problem, the young person can not get it to a vet [ and there may not even be a vet that knows anything about beardies ] and the replies are showing no empathy in this situation whatsoever. His/her parents may not permit them to meet someone to take it to a rescue. No one knows the o.p.'s circumstances so why keep scolding, berating and dragging them down ?

Mav, if you need help, you can p.m. any of the wonderful + compassionate mods. on here like Drache614, Diamc or Sweetiepie9. They will usually not allow this type of attack on these forums and hopefully will be along later to address this.

Best wishes to you + your beardie.

I like the name, great name for a male dragon. Has Maximus tried to poo any time lately ? Have you ever taken him out to sit in the grass in the past ?

:( this thread is making me sad. If I could afford to pay for the visit I would, most medicine for beardies is cheap its the vet visit that costs more. (Unless something more major needs to be done.) where abouts do you live? Don't needs specifics just a city. I mean I would donate to a vet bill, obviously he wants him to get better he's feeling lost right now...

I don't know I'm to sensitive I feel bad for everyone (except the parents or do they even know what's going on I have no clue)

I haven't taken him in the grass because I have 2 cats and they seem like they would hurt him, as they kill small animals all the time

Hello, I am absolutely appalled at several of you posting here on this thread &
you know who you are. This is extremely wrong, very uncaring & insensitive. It is abuse & I am not going to tolerate it anymore. I have tried but have obviously not gotten through to you & this is utterly uncalled for behavior for adults. I simply cannot allow this type of abuse here on a family forum any longer. Tracie

Mate the person who said the thread was making them sad was only trying to help, they were trying to make a donation, but don't worry its easy to take things the wrong way on the internet, you just need to keep talking to the experienced people around this site that were suggested to you, send them a personal message asap as your beardies life depends on it, good luck i hope your beardie will make it through!

I was not trying to attack you. I love beardies so much and it pains me to see one ill and I know your trying to help him. I'm sorry if you took it as an attack on you I understand. If it's easier for you to be mad at me, do so but I have rescued and spent large sums of money trying to do my best for these guys and I was just caring about your guy.

I wish you the best.

I know I'm stepping into this conversation super late, but I'd like to hear the status of this poor little guy.

The photo really hits close to home. The look on his face in that picture looks just like the last photo I ever took of my girl Simon before she passed away. I have never shared that photo because it was so heartbreaking and I knew what it meant. She was also only 2 years old.

I am not going to just repeat others, but I do second the idea of any form of an animal rescue that may be able to assist.
If you can disclose the city/state/location you're in we may be able to help find some resources to help you out. I understand with your age this makes things a lot more difficult. It's possible a vet may be able to assist you if you explain the situation, but of course not any old vet will do, so if you don't mind disclosing location we can try and help

I'm going to echo Tracie's remark here. I'm seeing a significant increase in "beating up" of those who do not do the things that others feel they should. While it is easy to take things the wrong way on the site, as one person noted, it's also easy to be more insensitive to the feelings of others and characterize them as uncaring. When more to the truth is likely that the person is in a difficult situation and trying to figure out how to make it work. In this case, a 13 year old is working on convincing their parents to help. This person's sense of "limited resources" is a lot more extreme than I think is being considered.

Generally, however, I expect people to be helpful and less judgmental on this site. If you cannot accept our rules of being polite and courteous (please review the policies), please seek another site to focus your negativity on. We've kept a focus to be friendly, helpful, and positive here for the past 17 years. I expect that to continue.

I agree that a vet sounds like it is essential. If you all want to be helpful, brainstorm on ways that MIGHT actually help this happen, rather than belittling another for not yet being able to do that. Be helpful and supportive, not critical and judging.

Thanks,
-Alex (Administrator and Founder of BeardedDragon.org)

@Mavthebeast, please do have a conversation with your parents about helping with taking your beardie to the vet. If they are concerned with spending the money, ask them if there is anything you can do to help ease the burden of the costs (maybe pick up extra chores for a little while, or start a GoFundMe campaign). Parents often respond best when their kid is trying to be calm and collaborative instead of just asking them to do it.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
