Hi there,
If it's okay, I thought that I would ask my question on this thread, since it is basically the same thing that is happening to my dragon. Thanks in advance for any information that you can help me with.
We have a 2 1/2 year old male beardie who has been in perfect health up until now.
He's approx 1.5 kg (big boy!)
We took him to our reptile vet about 11 days ago with symptoms of a respiratory infection (mouth breathing, puffing up, nostrils appeared partially blocked.) The vet put him on 0.6 ml of Baytril administered once per day. Almost immediately, his
beard turned black and he stopped eating. We have given him the Baytril for 10 days now, and his beard pretty much has remained black and he still has not eaten. He also goes to the bathroom a couple of times a day. So far though, his breathing has gotten much better and he only occasionally opens his mouth a little. We've been giving him a 10-15 minute shallow
bath, so that he can absorb some water. Today, we took him back to the vet and he told us to take him off of the Baytril and gave him a vitamin shot (to help his appetite) and also gave him a shot for lung parasites, just in case they might be causing his problems. He had lost a little weight since his last visit, but he still looks very healthy.
My concern is, what do we do if his RI returns? Would a nebulizer and a different medicine work better for him, since he does not seem to handle oral Baytril real well? We are in the US.
Thanks much in advance!
