Beardies are very good at hiding symptoms not allowing their owners to know they are sick. What your beardie displayed in symptoms is exactly what my Geico displayed suddenly before I lost him on Dec. 28th. Jet black beard, trouble breathing and the next morning he was gone before I could get him to the vet. I suspect a URI that turned to pneumonia. I know this doesn't help you with Phoenix but hope it gives you some hope that you did nothing to cause this so suddenly. I am so sorry that you lost your Phoenix. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I am soo sorry you lost him. Tonja is right, sometimes they get sick and we can't do anything about it.

Hi there, I have two dragons...one who's been nothing but sickly and a very hearty one. The black beard happens from time to time. My male will do it when he wants to eat, get picked up or during mating season. It's perfectly normal according to my vet....for lack of words...it' kinda like a "mood" indicator.
