My BD won't use his hide

When I got my BD, I bought him a small hide for gecko(I was not aware of that). He never hide in it but it seems that he likes it and enjoyed laying on top of the hide and get the UBV light, which is placed above the hide.

Today I got some time and bought him a new log hide, the one made of wood and has a large space beneath it so that he can get in and hide. My BD seems not interested in it at all. He only explored a little bit under it and then went to sleep at the other corner of his tank. He would rather expose himself in sleep than sleep under his hide. Actually my dragon has never used or get used to using a hide at all since I purchased him two months ago. He always sleep at one corner of the tank next to his old small gecko hide.......

I am wondering how to make him use his new hide and sleep under it? I sometimes need to use the room light at night when he is sleeping. He won't sleep well if the room light is on.

I would give him time to get used it. Some never sled in their hides. If they do, great, if they don't, then whatever. They probably feel safe enough to sleep in the open. I would give it a couple of weeks for him to get used to it. Also, is it on the hot side or the cool side and which side is the gecko hide on?

I've only had one dragon who ever used a hide and it was only at night. Hides are complete unnecessary for dragons so don't feel bad if he never uses it.

The gecko hide was put on the cool side of the tank and there is UVB light above it.

Now I moved out the old gecko hide put the new large log hide on the same place the gecko hide used to be.

PS:

My tank is only 20 gallon and I will change the tank soon. So If I put the hide on the basking spot or on the hot side, my BD has to climb on it to do sun basking but the distance of the basking light to it would be too close and I am worried it may burn him. That is why I put the hide on the cool side.

I would not worry to much about it, enjoy it. If and when brumation starts this may be over and you'll try to catch every glimpse of your dragon under the hide.
If your dragon feels like he wants to hide, he will, I love their individuality and sometimes stubbornness.
