My Baby Zepp passed away please read!

For about a week or so my mother and I have been buying diffrent pools for my baby so he could chill outside a little during the day, since the sun is so much better for them than the lights we use as a sub. The first 2 things we bought he was able to get out of them one was a kiddy pool and the other was a round tin like tub. Then my mom purchased a plastic tote from walmart it was clear and high so he would not be able to escape. So the next morning I wake up and Zepp wakes up with me most days he sleeps next to me on my bed wrapped in a blanket on a pillow.. So I go outside and poor some green crayola playsand in the tote and put him a hide in there and I go get my baby. I put him in the tote and he starts trying to escape. Now I am just laughing at his cute butt because he is used to being able to get out and run around the yard before I get him. So I am not thinking something is wrong with him. I go inside and get his water bottle and I spray him down and give him a drink of water and set him back on top of his hide so he can bask, when I went in the house he was just sitting there chilling. I come back in 20 minutes and he is dead. I am so devestated and I lost my child. No one understands except my mother who loved him almost as much as I did. I cant go in my bedroom and make myself move his home, idk what to do with my self. If anyone knows what I may have done wrong please tell me, if I some how caused this then I want to be able to help other people not make the same mistakes. He was healthy he eats everyday good meals of greens, veggies, fruits, and reg bearded dragon mosit food. I also give him crickets and superworms every other day. He seemed fine. Please help me figure out how my baby died.

The superworms probably killed him. A beardie shoudnt eat Superworms unless the are 15-16 in. The shell is to hard to digest. When my beardie was 14. in he got minorly impacted.

I am so sorry to hear about your baby, Zepp. I am sure that as soon as some of the more experienced members see this that they will answer your post and have some answers for you. I just wanted to tell you how sorry I am that you lost your little one.
I'm not qualified enough to give you a definite answer though I'm wondering if perhaps if he was left in the sun that maybe the plastic gave off a toxic gas when it heated up? I don't think it was anything that you could have foreseen. It sounds like you've been a wonderful caregiver to Zepp. I have faith that the senior members of this site will have answers for you. They are very knowledgeable about the care of bearded dragons here. Again, my condolences...

Might he have gotten an insect he shouldn't. . . there have been other posts about dragons outdoors eating a firefly and dying with it in their mouths. How old was Zepp?

I know how hard it is to lose your baby. Our Ash passed away in April and we were devastated. I'm so sorry for your loss. Sit with your mom and cry, its the best thing. I made my son a t-shirt with Ash's picture on it, so he would always have Ash around him. It seemed to help.

Hey thank you guys for responding so fast and just for caring.I knew that this site is full of people who love these lil guys like I loved my zepp and ur help and support means so much to me right now because no one gets it and I miss him so much. When I got zepp they said he was 2 years old but he was only 11 or 12 inches which made no sense. What's worse is I think he may have been a rankin or half rankin due to his markings and size.

You need to post the picture in Photobucket first. (google it - they have free accounts). Once its loaded into photobucket, select the share link above the thumbnail. Select linkcode ? (its the third option at the top of the photo), find the correct coding for bulletin boards and copy. That encodes the picture correctly for this forum. Then paste into your post. Then submit and you'll be able to see the pictures. Its a little confusing at first, but if I can figure it out - so can you!

Quick question . . . how long had you had your Zepp?

I completely understand your loss. I just lost my Reggie on June 26th, he was only 11 months old. I have no idea how he died.... he just.... never woke up one morning. He was sleeping right next to me.... and I feel so guilty, because what if I could've done something? Nobody understands. Nobody knows what he meant to me. He was "just a lizard", right? Why should I mourn him? Nobody understands that he was my little man. (Dangit I'm getting all teary eyed.)

I only had Reggie for 6 months, but it wasn't nearly long enough. No amount of time is long enough, is it?

I know huh my friends all look at me werid and this guy I am seeing I am seriously thinking about not seeing him anymore. He wont say that he thinks im over reacting but you can tell by how he looks at me if I cry about zepp or speak about missing him. Yes Zepp happened to be a lizzard but he was my best friend, my child, and my other half all in one. We were so close fromt he moment I got him we bonded he never once got angry with me, or tried to bite anyone, he went places with me, he would even kiss me back how werid is that. Gosh I want him back.

Wow I'm so sorry to hear that. I would be absolutely devastated if I ever lost Dude or Girl so suddenly and without warning, especially on what seemed like such a nice day!

I'm not sure what could have caused such a sudden death. Was he acting weird beforehand? Eating the same? How was his activity?

Maybe he got stung by something poisonous? Maybe he ate a firefly? Though it generally takes a few hours from the stories I've heard, it may be possible for him to die by poisoning in twenty minutes... Was he out of your sight during this time? Another possibility is heat, maybe. I know when I had Dude and Girl in some plastic totes for a move it got super hot in them -really- quick in the sunlight. I'm talking within one or two minutes the sides would burn my hand (needless to say I took them out and covered the totes till they cooled off before putting them back in - covered this time!).

It might have been an underlying problem, something he's had an issue with for awhile and decided to manifest suddenly. What was his setup like? I do agree with the superworms, for the most part they should only be fed to dragons at least 16 inches in length for proper digestion. Was he having regular bowel movements?

I know it's gotta be hard not knowing how or why he died so suddenly. I hope that the cause can be figured out. I'm so sorry he died.

So sorry for ure loss....we had to put one of our beardies down and that was a VERY hard thing to do. I cried for days and days and im not ashamed to admit it and its not silly at all.... they become a part of ure life.....its very hard packing up there homes..but its ok to cry about that too......thoughts r with you xoxoox
