First: i Know this is more about enclosure but my beardie has had 2 yrs without UVB and i needa know if this brand is safe or not. i was unable to find trex or Megareay MVB bulbs but i find something that sounds good.
1. Its from Exo terra
2. it saids optimal levels of UVB UVA visual light and heat in one bulb.
- Self ballastard mercury vapor bulb
- provides benefits of sunlight
- helps prevent metabolic disease
-increased UVB penetration distance +30cm
Its called Solar Glo 125w Daylight. Please answer quick my beardie can hardly move she needs uvb and i needa know if this brand is safe

From what I have read, the Solar Glo bulbs seem to have a fairly bad reputation. I think there's actually a sticky in some of the forums about it. It seems the bulb of choice is the Repti-Sun 10.0 tube bulb, not the compact fluorescent version.

I have read negative reviews on the solar glo. I personally use both a MegaRay in one enclosure and a Powersun in another. Both bulbs have brought out great color in both our beardies. The Powersun produces more heat than the MegaRay which allows us to us it without a secondary heat source, but from my experience, i would recommend both bulbs...

Hello,

The Exoterra Solar Glo unfortunately, is not very good for UVB output. So, no, I do not recommend it. At the moment, several MVB's have had to have modifications this year, due to bad glass usage. Basically, the Solar Glo in 2008-2009 was a great bulb, emitting roughly 125uW/cm2. They have changed the specs of their bulbs in late 2009 to early 2010. A lot of people on here have used them, & they have not performed very well. I have used them, & I have a 6.2 meter to measure the output of the UVB. The UVB for them is very low, approximately 35uW/cm2. Sure, they are safe, but, they are weaker than even the Reptisun 10 tube bulb.
Since you are looking to treat a dragon with possible metabolic bone disease, right now, I would choose the Reptisun 10. It will need to be within 6-8 inches placed directly beside the basking light on one end of the tank.n
So, for now, I can only suggest the Reptisun 10 tube bulb for the best UVB exposure, being used along with a bright white basking light.
The Powersun as well, has had some problems this year, too. Some have used it with a little success, but, they are not very strong, for a MVB.

You need to learn a little respect for people trying to help you. The simple answer, basically already given to you by several people, is that at this time there are no recommended MVB bulbs. If you want good UVB then you need a ReptiSun 10 linear tube bulb. End of story.

As Tracie said, there really isn't an MVB out hat doesn't have problems. Tracie and others are just making you aware of that. I had issues with MegaRay and received a replacement that appears to be working. I am also having success with a Powersun, but this does not mean that they are the best options. To be completely honest, I have fluorescent fixtures in my enclosures that will be running Reptisuns next year due to the uncertainty of the MVBs. There are problems with every bulb but he Reptisun, so your choices are not going to come easily and will come with much debate. Good luck and hopefully you find success in whatever bulb you choose....

WOW! There's a MAJOR WEALTH of knowledge here on this forum and many have tried offering advise, advise that was asked for. IMHO I'm of the belief, don't ask if you don't want to hear the answers. I didn't want to reply to this thread but just felt I had to - YOU were rude Joshish - PERIOD!

SEARCH the darn site for MVB or look thru each and every post that has to do with LIGHTING and you will find the answers.

Sorry but I just felt I needed to get that off my chest because most everyone here go above and beyond helping!

Moved here from ER forum

Joshish, I've followed your other posts and also offered other advise on them. I still don't understand why you can't hang a Repti-Sun 10.0 strip fluorescent INSIDE the tank at the right distance. There are ways this can be done without a lot of problems.

You have asked for advise and there is NO reason for you to be rude to the members here. Everyone is trying to help but because they have a difference of option on what is the best UVB, you're giving them a hard time. Rudeness is NOT allowed on this forum and will not be tolerated.

It seems like your best option would be to get a tank that isn't a fish aquarium like you're using now. It is too tall and that's what's causing most of the UVB issues. Petco has a sale on 40 gallon breeders for $40.00 which is a steal so perhaps you should look into that.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
