I'm not sure where this should really be posted.
Anyway, I was giving General Tso and Mushu their baths the other day. General Tso was done with his so I pulled him out and put him in his towel and set Mushu in the bath. I asked Jamie to keep an eye on her while I went and dried General Tso off and put him back in the viv. Then... I hear a yelp from the bathroom and I go in there to see Jamie holding Mushu in her hand looking very forlorn, "Is she dead?" she asks me.
now for a little back story.
Our bathroom sink's drain won't close all the way. I looks like it does, but a little water still seeps through it. So, I've taken to keeping the water running warm and simply reaching down and draining a little water when it starts to get too high. This keeps fresh water in there, and always nice and warm for them. I constantly keep a good eye on them while they're in there, but I guess Jamie mis-heard me when I asked her to watch Mushu, because she left the bathroom too. Apparently, she came back to a sink full of warm water and Mushu floating lifeless in the middle!
I got so scared! I grabbed Mushu, she was puffed up so big and didn't seem to be breathing, both eyes were closed, no limbs moving, nothing! After a minute or so, she started twitching one arm rapidly, so I took her and held her in my hand under her basking light. She slooooowly opened one eye, and when (I'm assuming) she realised she wasn't floating around in the water anymore, she simply stood up on my hand, hopped onto her basking rock and looked up at me as if nothing happened. She never even got any stress marks.
I'm guessing the puffing way up (and I mean WAY up lol) is simply an instant reaction to keep from drowning. An hour later, when it was time for the evening meal, she gobbled up just as many bugs as normal, and went back to basking. Two days later, it was time for her next bath... let's just say she was less than enthusiastic about it lol. I let her rest her front feet on my hand for a few minutes, then she just turned around and went back to swimming around in it again like she never even had a fright in the first place.
WARNING: When people say it only takes a second for something bad to happen in the beardie bath. THEY"RE RIGHT! I happened to get lucky apparently, and Mushu is completely unphased by it, but I can only imagine what a few more seconds could have done.
