Hey guys, I haven't been on in a couple weeks so I wanted to come on and share the recent happenings of my rescued beardie, Mushu, as well as ask some questions concerning my new beardie Haku.
My most recent post was about Mushu having pin worms and declining rapidly. We ended up losing her last Friday and the necropsy showed she had liver failure from fatty liver disease which the vet says started before we rescued her. As sad as I have been I was very happy to hear that we prolonged her life by a few months and that if she had stayed in her previous owners care she would not have made it this far. Due to it being graphic I don't think I will post the necropsy picture, but her liver was three inches by three inches and bright yellow. I appreciate all the help and support I received on here and thought it would be nice to give everyone this update, despite how upsetting it is.
Now on to Haku. Once Mushu came up positive for pinworms we decided it was time to do a fecal for Haku. We have had her for a little over a month but moved her into a bigger tank two days before bringing in her fecal which came back positive for coccidia. She has enough that they think we should treat her but I had a few questions first.
1. Do you think moving her into the big tank a few days before would cause enough stress to show a higher count than what is actually present (should we wait a week and do another fecal before giving her medicine)
2. What should we expect while treating her (will she stop eating or act differently)
3. What are the best ways to make sure the tank is clean enough that she doesn't reinfect herself?
She also is having an issue with shed right now. All of her limbs recently turned white, and I'm sure in a couple more days they will shed fine, but her tail has been stuck for quite some time (maybe two weeks) and she seems to hate when we touch it which makes me think it's hurting her or bothering her in some way. We give baths everyday and have also tried putting oil on it. Do you guys have any other good methods for helping a stuck shed? We have increased the humidity in her tank (not much, it's probably at 30-40%) to try to help.
Sorry for all the info in one post, I know it is a lot but any help or input would be greatly appreciated.
