Moving in November

Hey guys, I have a situation coming up and I was looking for some advice.

I'm going to be moving in with my best friend in Texas within a few months, around november.

GIven that we will likely be driving to Frt. Worth from Alabama (About nine to eleven hours) and it's going to be chilly, I was looking for some advice as to making sure Nanaki handles the move safely and as stress-free as possible.

I still have his old 10gallon and I was also looking into some carrier bags/pet totes. If all else fails, I was going to reach out to his breeder and see if i could possibly ship him over to my friend.
The latter I see as emergency measures; she has never had a beardie herself before and I don't know how Nanaki would react.

Any suggestions or ideas? :( Please and thank you!

you should be able to travel that long with him. Get a duffel bag he can sit in, food/water and a soft place to sit.

Mine loves to watch out the window and will sit on me for hours staring out the window. Just make sure you stop and get him some uv, (i recommend a leash) and be prepared to have someone else hold him while you tag team bathroom breaks.

They can be great travellers, I know Nanaki is a quick little guy so really recommend the harness/leash.

I think I still have an old gym bag that would be big enough for him.
I was thinking of getting those 72 hour heat packs to kinda tuck under a towel and his blanket in the bag. An old lunch box would hold some water, his greens and maybe a cup of dubia?

Leash is a yes for sure, along with some paper towels and a baggie just incase he goes poop. :p But the only thing I hope is the long trip doesn't have any negative effects on him. :(

I have some of the 48 hour heat packs, they would work well with that blanket you got for him. Just cuddle him up like a little sandwich with it. :p

Mine would also sleep on me for hours on end. The little sling I make is a black scarf so it blocks out enough of the sun for her to get a good nap when she wants (and i'm warmer than her hide :p)

I might try that then.

I'm just worried because I don't know how he'd react to the cold, even though he'll be about five months by then. I was told getting him a new home would probably be the best option but I put my foot down on that.

Nanaki is my baby and I'm not giving him up unless I absolutely have to.

There's no reason you can't keep him. Keep the heat packs on hand and make sure you have your regular gear. I've taken Scaley out on 48 hours of camping and she's just fine.

I agree. A gym bag will work well. I use a soccer bag with towels at the bottom. You'll probably find that normal car temperature is fine and you may only need the heat packs if you leave the car to stop for food etc. I just had my guy on a week long road trip without any issues. I've also had them on road trips through Minnesota in the middle of winter with no problem so the "cold" in the South can be handled as well ;^) . Bring your baby along with you! =)

Thank you guys :) I'll probably put his lamps and stuff into a big bin so theyre close by but, I did have a another question.

If he should go into brumination before or during the move, will it be safe to move Nanaki around?

I thought I read that he'll be 5 months by then. If so that's too early to be brumation.

I would be comfortable traveling with scaley if I had to as she actually has fewer needs than if she wasnt sleeping. And I'd get to hand out with her a little unlike now where she's hiding all day.

Yeah at 5 months he's unlikely to go into brumation. That usually doesn't happen until they are adults. You could still move him though, he'd just be more sleepy and grumpy than usual.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
