Mouth sore?

Saphira has had a mouth sore for roughly a month or two now and I'm wondering what I can do to help treat it. It hasn't gotten bigger, but it bleeds from time to time, like she bit herself. It's jutting out a bit, but it doesn't seem to cause her pain or inhibit her appetite.

I have a few questions:
1) What causes mouth sores to occur?
2) Is it anything serious?
3) Are there any home remedies I can use to help heal the sore?

Also, please don't advise me to take her to the vet. The closet vet is over an hour away and my car is down due to sabotage. Plus, even if I got a ride that vet wants $60 to just see the animal - I'm used to paying $20 for my local vet to see my dog or cat.

Here are some pictures:

Hi there....I'm not sure what may have caused it, but you might try some unpasteurized honey on it [ from a health food store or beekeeper, not the grocery store kind ]

Thank you! I'll try to pick some up on Monday. I have a farmer's market near me. Will any kind of honey do? Clover and Orange Blossom honey is extremely common around here.

That's good...either type will do. Dab it on a couple times a day with a Q-tip. If it's very thick + hard to work with you can add a tiny bit of warm water to thin it slightly. Then be sure there are no loose crickets in the tank that would be drawn to her mouth.

Alright, thank you! The nearest pet store is about an hour away, so unfortunately she does not get crickets often. She mainly has fruits and vegetables.

UPDATE

I need some more advice. The sore is getting larger and now has yellow puss coming out of it. Saphira is salivating a lot, but not drooling. I'm currently cleaning it with a wash cloth (basically wiping it off with warm water) on a daily basis. I don't know what to do. My nearest herp vet is an hour and a half away and they won't give me any help - just to bring her in which is $50. I'm currently unemployed, so the office visit is a stretch, let alone the treatment. What should I do?

I'm sorry to hear that she's worse. :( It sounds like mouth rot Kiara. If so, you will need to get antibiotics. It would be best to get her to an experienced reptile vet. There is something called " care credit" that I've read about on these forums that people can apply for to use for an emergency trip to a vet. Also if you Google " anapsid.org mouth rot " there are suggestions on what type of antiseptic you might try on her mouth.

Thank you. Also, you have to have a job to have Care Credit. My mom has it, but it's for my dog only. I've spent over $2k of college money on his medical bills, so my mom has agreed to pay for him, but only him. since she's given me the Care Credit card, I've already had to take him to the vet and have surgery. My mom has a $500 to pay and I feel terrible about it. :(

I'll try to look and see if I can do anything for her at home. I don't know if I can take her to the vet. I hate this. I had money set aside for her when I got her, but I had to use it for my dog. :(

Well, I went in to "work" (internship) today and the veterinarian said that she would look at Sapphy. I brought her in and she is going to give Sapphy antibiotics - I believe Betadine. I will pick it up later today since she had a doctor's appointment. Sapphy is now back home, but the veterinarian and the office manager loved seeing and holding Sapphy. They said that she was the brightest beardie they've ever seen in person and they loved the orange tiger stripes on her. I'm so proud of my baby.

She weighs 13.5 oz - what a chubby thing! I gave her a bath this morning, so she was nice and clean - plus she didn't poop in the carrier! I'll update again when I get the antibiotics, but at least (since I'm interning there) I won't have to pay until next Friday. My fiance got a job, so that's when he gets paid.

Oh good, that sounds like it will work out for you. Actually Betadine is the topical antiseptic that you will swab her mouth with, different than antibiotics but there will need to be oral a.b's as well. Can you post a new pic of her mouth ....if it's not too much trouble ?

The sore hasn't changed and I still need to go back to get the medication. I'll be getting it within an hour or two. The sore hasn't changed, but the vet got to see how it looked like it was bleeding and then it had the yellow crusty stuff on the outside of her mouth/the sore.

The vet thinks that she might have gotten bit by a cricket and then the bite got infected. Sapphy checked out completely healthy otherwise and she was really glad to see how well taken care of Sapphy was. I had her nails clipped, so they liked how she didn't scratch them. She just loved sitting on their hands. She was such a doll.

Ok, so I just got the medicine. She gave me Ofloxacin Opthalmic for her sore. One drop three times a day and it should go away soon. I'm happy and Sapphy doesn't mind me dropping it on her sore. I'm so proud of her. :D
