Hello, I just joined the site last night and due to me being over paranoid I have a question. Yes, I have read plenty of questions/answers about gaping. But, I love my beardie and I'm just double checking with people who have dealt with these creatures for a long time. This is him under his heat lamp, with mouth open. Normal, I hope? He is gonna give me a heart-attack. That little bugger, and on a side-note he is very, very active. He runs around paws at the glass, will hide for a little bit and then come back out and start running around again. Hopefully that is normal too. Any advice or answers would be awesome! Thank you.

hello

everything your describing is completely normal. As long as your measuring temps with a digital thermometer with probe or a temp gun and they're not over 110 at basking area then everything is fine. Its good that he's so active. Its hard not to worry about them but you start to worry less once you learn their traits....although the worrying never completely goes away, believe me lol  Are you using a red light in the viv or is that just the way the photo turned out?

he's gorgeous by the way :D

I'm using an infrared 100 watt heat bulb, and I have a 20 watt zilla uvb coil bulb. I could use some advice with them too :banghead: I have read so many different things.

The red bulbs can harm their eyes and the coils are no good as they don't emit enough UVB and also are not good for the eyes. I'd replace the red light with a bright white basking bulb or a regular household bulb. Replace the coil with a reptisun 10 UVB tube or arcadia 12% UVB tube (UK)- they're the 2 best ones on the market. Hope this helps a bit :D

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
